Epic Pack
At first I wasn't sure even the 1 size up would do, the waterproof material takes away from the stretch. But upon further inspection and test hike, there are adjustments under each shoulder strap that definitely help. The storage is great, I can fit a ton. And even without the quiver connection set-up, I have the Salomon belt for my poles, which I plan to use for my Kogalla unless I find a better method; and may put the poles in one of the two side pockets that are long and deep, which I used to help carry a friend's poles who didn't have a belt. Definitely worth a try; my friend already said he wants one since that hike!
S/LAME - Broke in under 25km
Bottle loop ripped off within 25km of my first run using this vest. Given the price and an expectation of decent quality from S/Lab products this is just rubbish. Aside from the actual damage, the bottle pockets generally are a bit too big for the provided bottles, so even on the side that didn’t break, the bottle slips free of the loop when less than full, and falls into the pocket, but has the potential to bounce back out once it is free of the securing loop. The tensioning cords at the top are quite nice but there is nowhere to secure the excess, so they get in the way at the front. And there is nowhere decent to store poles, and no way of getting them stored without taking the bag off. I had high expectations, but it isn’t up to the job.
Best Long Distance Running Pack Ever
I used this pack for a 220 mile non stop ultra marathon. I absolutely loved it, the access to your gear via the central rear zip is fantastic, especially in the middle of the night when exhausted it just makes your life easier. Great back side pouches for poles, doesn’t have the quiver attachment which is a shame. The front zipped pockets are not stretchy but the they feel huge. It’s a little heavier than my ADV skin 12 but the weight distribution in my opinion is far superior to anything I’ve used before, I even wore it on a red hot day with nothing underneath and received no chaffing. Love it.
I think it runs large
Awesome pack. I own almost every unisex pack and I wear a small almost all season unless I am in a winter coat then I wear a medium. I bought this in my regular unisex small and I think it’s pretty true to size and almost too large. I am 5’10 female and weigh 135. My chest circumference is 34-36 while wearing at least 2 layers and the chest pieces can literally close up like I would be zipping the front. I can layer a puffy and cross country ski jacket and be fine. I am going to get an x small because for hot weather the bag is too big and even with a long torso it hits the small of my back.
Awesome Pack, Bottle Loop Broke 1st Run!
I really like this vest but was dissatisfied with the fact that it fell apart my first run. Despite the elastic bottle loop unfastening I have enjoyed it so far. 10 miles with a couple thousand feet of climbing with down layers in my pack. Used all the pockets, too.
Perfect for the long run
I bought this to pace my husband in the Tahoe 200 because I needed more room than my other vests have. I’ve been testing it before we go. This vest perfectly blends capacity with the comfort and accessible storage that I am used to with my running vests. There are so many pockets in the front for quick access, the back can carry all the mandatory gear (and can tighten down when empty), and I love the pass-through pocket at the back to store layers. The two, large side pockets can fit oversized bottles, but I use one for my poles. I was worried I would be buying a vest to wear just once, but this is turning into my go to pack for any long run. I ordered a size too small but the return process was fast and easy and I had my replacement very fast! Highly recommend!
Lots of Storage Capacity but Runs Small
This seems like a great pack and I really really wanted to like it, but it feels kinda tight. It definitely runs small and I’m not sure it’s actually 20 liters. I love the look of it and all the pockets, just wish it wasn’t so roomy on the top versus the bottom of the pack. I also don’t see any loops to connect the pole quiver, which is a disappointment. However, I love the weather protection and the outer pockets on the back.
Perfect for long trail runs, extra durable
Ive read alot about the water flask loop coming apart on the first fun, but ive been running up and down adirondack high peaks full speed with 2 flasks on both sides and havent had a single problem. Right now ive got about 2050 miles on this pack, not a single issue and if it fell apart tomorrow id be satisfied and would buy another one right away. Not sure whats going on with everyone else's loop
one of the best
I was testing it for more than a month for different types of runs, including lots multi days runs in the mountains. I think this is one of the best vests with more volume on the market. Pockets are amazing, fit is good.
Sizing!
Salomon designers, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, start making smaller chest circumference packs again (xxs). There are so many petite women athletes who need good running vests (especially multi-day packs like this one). I love my SLab Ultra vest, but need something with more volume for fast packing. Can you all please make your packs in all sizes????
