Too narrow
This is good looking shoe but a little too narrow. I wish this shoe comes in a wide width.
Too slippery for mix of snow and ice on sidewalks
They are comfortable generally speaking but too slippery. I was not feeling secure walking on sidewalks with a mix of snow and ice. In comparison, my hiking sneakers felt with better traction than these boots. Also, my body started to feel the weight of the boots on urban walks of 1hour or more. They are warm enough though for the arctic winters of Chicago.
high quality with one exception
My wife and I hike an average of 30+ miles a week and have been fans of Solomon for years. These hikers are excellent except for the non-existent insoles. Feet hurt within 2 miles and when we removed the insoles, we could see why. You shouldn't have to purchase replacement insoles for a shoe at this price point.
Great boots
I bought these for hikes in Olympic specifically HOH rainforest they seem like they’ll be a great shoe for that.I would definitely say these are true they have a little bit more room in the toes so if you do have wider feet in the front, I think these are a great shoe.
Sturdy & comfortable
I bought these for a trip where I will be doing a lot of walking in rainy weather. I need a good arch support but also comfortable & a toe box that isn't too narrow. . These 100% fill that need. I'm always a size 7.5 and these were sized perfectly.
2 pair
I love these right out of the box. I use my first pair for landscaping and even though they look like a hot mess they are still holding up beautifully. My new pair have kept my feet warm and dry in negative numbers and on snowy days.
Soft shell upper is like running shoes soft
I normally wear size 11, i got these Salomon Shelter WP insulated boots in a 10.5, and it fits, but no room for thicker socks. An 11 would have fit better. I have low volume feet (flat like pancakes, not like sausages, lol). So if you have wide or very high arches these might be a tight fit for you. Also the toes are more pointy narrow than the Salomon Quest 4. These have a great built in arch support. But...as these are "soft shell" aka fabric, REI has indicated that these in all likelyhood would NOT be covered under their policy if i used these for winter hiking and a stick or whatever tears "fabric ". I haven't decided whether to keep or return. I wanted insulated boots for cold weather when the local temperature drops into teens or below zero. my current use of Adidas Terrex hikers just dont keep my feet warm no matter how many wool sock i wear. So insulated boots. There were no reviews at time of my purchase whether these boots would work in moderate terrain or brush. Rock outcrops etc. My Adidas hikers are more tennis shoes like, also fabric and haven't torn or anything. But these Shelter boots fabric feel way mor softer literally more like my trail running shoes. Idk
Fantastic shoe
These are very lightweight, comfortable and warm! Slightly large sizing but thick socks solve that problem.
