Great jacket but the sizing is way off, order a full size smaller than you usually wear. I normally wear a large but it was comically big on me. I returned it for a medium and it fit much better.
First the positive, it's nice and warm, perfect for temps in the 30's and 40's with a layer underneath. The sizing is crazy. I typically wear a Large but following the Patagonia online sizing tool and some reviews that recommended sizing up I did that. The XL is absurdly large, could have fit another third of me in there. Returned that and got the Large instead it's also bigger than normal and could likely use a medium but in order to layer decided to keep the L. The sleeves are crazy long, about 2 inches too long for me, the sleeves have buttons but only two a third button would help with this. The chest pocket zipper is VERY close to the coat zipper would prefer it be farther to the left. Still haven't figured out how to securely cinch the hood up. Almost an ideal jacket.
Good jacket for Boston winter weather, however sleeves need to be 2 to 3 inches shorter.
Patagonia is a fine brand and I like buying much of their merchandise. This one was perfect if the ‘sleeves weren’t too long.
Loved the look of the jacket and fit me well across shoulders and length at waist was fine. But…the sleeves went down to my fingertips even with fastening the narrower snaps on the cuff (there are two options of snaps). A little shocked this issue didn't come up during product development.
I have a Stormshadow Jacket Medium, which fits spot on. Perfect for freezing and below temps. Wanted something similar for "shoulder season" use: mid-30's to 40's, with good water and wind protection. Current jacket for this purpose is a 20+ year old LL Bean nylon Medium bomber with fleece lining. Not for "performance" use; just around town, travel, walking dog, easy local hikes. Looking for trim fit, light layering. Wanted a hood too. The Windshadow fits the bill. Fits me about the same way as the LLBean. It's not Gortex like the Stormshadow, but their proprietary membrane gets good reviews. Hood holds less volume, but not intended to fit a helmet. Now, to get this, I had to size down to an S. As most reviews point out, the sleeves are very long, and the body loose, as if designed for heavy layering. Like heavy sweaters. And even then, the sleeves would be much too long. I wear 33" dress shirt sleeve length. On me, the medium sleeves were at my knuckles, arms down. Body length seemed more like the Storm, which is more of a "car coat" design. Looked too big all around, more like a Large. For Short, the shoulders are perfect on me (size 39 to 40 chest), sleeves maybe 1/2" longer than perfect, but fine. Fits is comfortably trim, with ample articulation, and room for a light layer. Patagonia R1 Air is perfect. Body length like a bomber style jacket. Appears well made and quality materials.
