Fell off a mountain.

I have been wearing the Atom SV hoodie as my go to for hikes and for daily use these past couple of months. Great mobility. Comfortable and warm during -20 degree weather with some decent layers. And even after falling roughly a hundred metres down a mountain all I was left with was a penny sized rip on the shoulder which I got repaired at a ReBird centre. The only drawback is that I naturally run hot so it’s breathable enough to leg go of some moisture but not enough for me personally during activity. Overall would buy again.

Atom SV as a heirloom

I first bought the Atom AR so many years ago I can't remember to use as a belay jacket while ice climbing and I'd still be wearing it if my 12 year old son hadn't claimed it. That left me with needing to replacement for this winter. What I didn't expect was for this Atom SV jacket to be better. It's still warm when wet like it's predecessor but warmer if that's possible. Also the hood fit better over my helmet without getting in the way. Seeing that my last Atom jacket lasted as long as it did I don't think I'll be needing another one anytime soon. Unless my son likes the color more than the one he has now.

Our new favorite winter hiking piece

I have Atom AR and recently got Atom SV to have another color, and it's been great. I use this at the beginning of hiking until my body is warmed up, when I take small breaks, or under belay parka/shell on longer break for lunch, or downhill whith/without another layer depending on the weather. This became a must winter hiking piece for me and my wife. We have been using this on several hiking trips from 20°F to - 5°F. Both of us enjoy this very much. They changed AR(having fleece panel in armpit) to SV(thinner insulation on sides like Atom LT), and I personally it's been good. I was at +20mph wind advisory hiking I didn't feel wind coming through my body, it just breathed better as an astive layer. Not sure about why people hate it so much on other reviews. We used it on NYC trip too. Temp was about 30-40°F, we tried cerium first but it was too hot and sweaty, Atom SV was perfect to walk around with. We are very happy with this piece.

The perfect zero degree all around jacket

I've bought this Atom series for years and years now (both weights), with each version slowly moving towards the best tailoring and finally, this year's version called the SV gets it all perfect I think. They got rid of the extra fabric around the midrift from last years version (the heavyweight) and corrected the complicated hood design as well, with now just a single pull tab. I'm very happy with the current SV version, in particular, in the beautiful black sapphire colour. Now I think the design team should consider bringing back the even darker navy colour called Tui for next year :)

Nice styling & comfort, but pills up on the collar

Nice styling, comfortable, warm yet versatile. But pilled up bad on the collar after wearing and then just one wash. I’ll need to shave the pills before it’s presentable again.

All great but the fit.

This new revised Atom SV seems very durable, outer fabric is strong and is very warm, warmer than previous versions and has more Coreloft insulation in it. The problem for me is that I also own a previous version, the Atom AR in XL size and it fits much better (trimmer) than this new version in the same size. So I ended up returning it because I didn’t like the fit at all and ordered a Large size instead. Quality from Arc’teryx is still there so I would recommend it for sure, just make sure to maybe try it out at a store first.

Nice Upgrade Over the Atom AR

I finally decided to upgrade my 2016 Atom AR and I'm really enjoying the update. The front hem is lower which I appreciate, the face fabric is more resilient, and the insulated side panels are a nice addition as they are still insulated but allow heat to escape when I'm exerting energy. I use this as a cold weather mid-layer on the ski slopes and I find myself wearing this around town quite a bit in cold weather. I'm 5'11", 175lbs and the medium fits more on the athletic side with room for a vest or a heavy overshirt.

Excellent stand alone fall/winter jacket

Originally I owned the Atom AR jacket. This is very comparable. I have had an issue lately with sizing from Arcteryx. It seems as though all of their products are changing sizing and the fit for me is not the best. I have been purchasing from other brands because of the sizing issue. I ordered the medium in the Atom SV and I’m happy to say the sizing is perfect and similar to my older Atom AR. Durability seems good. The material seems thicker and I noticed the other day with a light rain the jacket repelled water really well. I’m a person that is constantly cold in the late fall and winter and have used this jacket on a few cold mornings and also in the hockey rinks and it is toasty warm. Even though the description states light activity for an insulator I will be using it under one of my Beta AR shells for skiing.
