In reality, the Vasque logos on both the inside and the outside of the boot is colored in making the logo overly conspicuous and ugly? In the picture provided by REI, the logo is the same color as the boot and you can’t really see it. That’s a deal breaker for me, I’m taking it to the store for a refund.
The boots look and fit great but there is a seam where the tongue is sewn in that sticks up and rubbed sores on top of my feet. I couldn't get through a full day just wearing around the house. I kept trying, hoping that they would wear in but it got worse. I wanted them because of good ankle support when hiking. I have them at a shoe repair shop now to try and make them better. Even though I bought them on clearance, not worth the money.
Got these on clearance. Hated them just trying them on. Way too tight in the toe box. Might be fine if you have small/narrow feet. Maybe I would have been happier with a half size larger? In any event, they felt too narrow in the toe box and they needed a heel strap for pulling these on and for carabiner attachment to dangle off my backpack. I decided to skip trying a larger size and simply returning. Gorgeous boot though, and it appears well-made.
I wore a pair of Vasque Elias for years and *loved* them. Bought a pair of these since I read Vasque was going out of business and I didn’t want to be without a good pair of boots. Took them on one 12 mile hike and it wrecked my feet. Toe box is way smaller than previous generations; I started to form huge blisters along the inside of my foot right underneath my big toes on both feet; insoles are very cheap and thin; I had heel pain worse than any other shoes I’ve worn (I struggle seriously with plantar faciitis and my previous Elias boots were the only boots that didn’t agitate it further on long hikes) . They’re clearly very sturdy and waterproof, but it is not at all worth the pain or discomfort—especially at that weight and price point. I also had the issue another reviewer mentioned of getting sent the wrong size and having to file an exchange, all to have the boots still need to be returned. Massive bummer.
Disappointed, I really wanted to like these boots because they look really nice and they have nice midsole padding. However, the fit of the boots was very wide and regardless of how snug I tightened the laces I experienced painful toe jamming when walking downhill. Had to return.
I bought these boots several years ago. The previous owner stated they were too warm. What do you expect from a quality back country hiking boot? Sandals.
I bought my pair 20+ years ago to backpack up Mt. Washington (NH). Been using them for lesser peaks and day hikes since. Good ankle support which I liked for the more rugged trails. These have held up well, The upper were kept waterproof using NuBuck. Insoles are probably a little compressed, I could use inserts I suppose. The thread is worn in spots, but as you would expect but still grips well, no cracks! I'm planning a long, multi-week backpacking hike in cooler not cold weather over not rugged trails. If my hike were to be over more rugged trails or cold weather I would definitely by a new pair, mine are good for day hikes but I don't know they have 200+ miles in them, at least not while I'm far from home. Though these boots are heavy I give them 5 stars because that weight buys you good ankle support and warmth. I would love to see this same construction in a shoe form, with same lather uppers and same sole.
A sturdy, reliable, waterproof hiker or work boot, especially if you soak it down with Huber's Shoe Grease on a dual boot drying stand. Will keep you watertight and comfortable throughout all the heavy fall, winter and sring rains of much of the northern US.
The boots look nice but I ordered size 14 and received size 11.5. Now I have to pay for shipping to return them
Returned as didn’t feet left foot due to a old fracture
