I own the 2 person version of this tent, and used it 8 nights backpacking without any issue. I bought the 3 person this Spring in anticipation of a BWCA canoeing trip with my 2 sons. I have always brought a Eureka Timberline tent to the BWCA before, but I wanted to try a lighter weigh tent. Set up the brand new tent in my yard to confirm all good, and it was. First 2 nights with brand new tent in the BWCA (2 different sites) all good. Canoed to third site on 3rd day, took out tent and poles, and the main arching pole across the top failed in 2 points--- the top arching pole is several pieces with a tension cord connecting them. There is a metal piece sticking out of each part of the pole, which is used to connect to the next piece. In 2 spots, the aluminum connection piece slid back into the plastic or carbon fibre portion of the pole and was not retrievable. Had to string up tent in an awkward way, as we could not fix the pole and were in 3 days into the wilderness. Could not get the outer shell over the top of the rigged tent, but strung up a separate tarp over the top. 1st night in the rigged tent was fine, as there was no rain. 2nd night in the rigged tent there was a bad thunder and lightning storm from 2 am - 8 am. The whole middle of the tent sunk down so that we had about 2.5 feet height in the tent, and the floor began leaking through. Sleeping bags and clothes at 1 end of tent were soaked. Put on full rain suits and sat in the tent to ride out the storm, then did 3 days of traveling in 1 day to exit our wilderness adventure 2 full days early soley due to this tent failing. Returning the tent, of couse. Will continue to use my 2 person version of the tent, but that makes me nervous now as well.
