Good in the short run. So-so in the the long haul.
Bought these about a six months ago to replace Merrill slip-ons that just weren’t durable. These held up in ways that the Merrill’s did not- great toe box, plenty of tread left. However, the outside lugs on each side began to tear off. And as time wore on, the leather stretched and the fit became really sloppy. Even when walking through dewy grass, they would also become water soaked, infiltrating to my socks. This week, I was walking on some mildly muddy trails and one shoe just twisted round on my foot and I fell down, hard, on top of my dog. These shoes have become unsafe, just through normal wear. I guess I have to keep on looking for the ideal outdoorsy slip-on shoe. This one falls short, and so did I.

Keen Targhee III slip-on
I'm generally pretty happy with these shoes. Like other Keen shoes I've owned, they feel like I've been wearing them for months right out of the box. I've had them less than a month, but can say that the feel well built and give good arch support. The sizing was a little different than other Keen products I've owned in the past. I first got a size 10 in error (my mistake rather than Keen's) and that was way big for me. I exchanged them for a 9.5 which is what I wear in other Keen shoes and they are still slightly large. I'm keeping them though because I know a 9 will be too tight. Overall, I'm very pleased with them so far.
Most comfortable, but falls apart
Recommended after a treatment of injection under ultrasound for planter fasciitis. Most comfortable shoe ever, but after a few months started separating the rubber sole from shoe. Bought 2 additional pair just for the comfortable factor so I don’t have to go thru the process of injection or surgery again. Disappointed in quality
I'm sure they are fine
I'm sure these are, or would be, typical keen shoes with the way they perform and function. I'm personally finding it much harder to find a Keen shoe that fits like the way they used to fit. Whatever happened to the wider toe box of almost all their shoes which to me, made them great?? Now, I took a chance on these with my fingers crossed, but had to return them because the fit on me is lousy. I'm sure for some they are fine but I feel keen has moved away from why they stood out in the shoe field in the first place. Could just be me but I thought it was worth commenting on.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review! We are very sorry to hear that the Targhee III Slip-On was not the right fit. Though we have not changed the KEEN fit, it seems this particular style just isn't quite right. We recommend calling our Fan Services team to request a recommendation. They are always happy to describe the fit of a style or hear your desired fit and base a recommendation off of that information. They can be reached at 1 (866) 676-5336. Thanks again!
Targhee vs Brixen fit
As a diehard Keen fan, I've had their boots, shoes and slippers. They fit my narrow foot and are of great quality, and they last. I've had a pair of Ashlands for many years and could have continued wearing them, mostly in winter because of their being waterproof and grippy in snow, but the soles wore out and I don't feel safe on slippery ground any more. Nothing wrong with them, just old soles. I first tried the Brixen because they're also waterproof, but they seemed too wide. I took a chance by ordering the Targhee, and they are narrower than the Brixen, so I'm keeping them. Too bad they're not waterproof, but I can work with that. So if you have a narrower foot, the Targhee may be good. Thanks, Keen, great stuff.
Returned these shoes - but nice shoes!
I love to do reviews, but this is a hard one. I was not sure how to rate it in number of stars, since I returned them. Here's the info. I wear a size 12 in all of my other Keens - Targee II's and Targee III's boots mostly. So I ordered this shoe in a 12. I would say that were True to Size - my toes came to the usual spot in the toe, just like my Targee boots. My issue was more about me. I like a shoe or boot that feels totally attached to my foot. These Targee Slip-on's do not (and can not) huge my foot like a lace up shoe. I just didn't care for them so sent them back. Thank you Keen for your free return policy. They were great for just slipping on and off! But for me it's worth the extra minute to lace up. Hope this is helpful.
Everyday work shoe. Just bought my 3rd pair
I am on my feet 5 days a week all day outside. I burned through shoes in 2-3 months. When I found these I almost didn’t buy because of the price. I tried them out on a recommendation of a co worker and I loved them. They last me 10-12 months (3 times longer than most other shoes) and once they are broke in are very comfortable. They are a little tight when you first get them because of the elastic but I wear them on the weekend for a few hours for a few days before I use them all day at work. Fit is true to size. I recommend them to everyone I talk to.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We're so happy to hear that the Targhee III Slip-On was such a nice match for your foot.
Brown Keen Targhee Slip-On
I purchased the Keen men's Targhee in brown because you no longer carry the shoe for women (that's a shame). I have a pair of women's in green new buck but wanted the brown because if is more flexible with clothing colors. For some reason when I tried on my comparable size the lip at the top of shoe cut at the top of my foot so I had to get a larger size and use thick socks to fill the void. That's why I wish you sold the women's shoe. Anyway, I use the shoes for saltwater fishing. They work great on boats where the surface is wet and can be slippery from discarded/dead baits. I never have a problem with the Targhee's though. Also, it's easy to get in and out of them when I'm doing overnight fishing and they're not so heavy they make my feet tired.
Fit is not as described
Dissappointing. I own several pairs of Keen's (walking shoe and sandals) and these just do not compare quality or comfort-wise. They are described as having good arch support -- simply not true. For the price the insoles are not worth the cost. I have a pair of LL Bean moccasins with better arch support. Suggest Keen either re design and engineer this model or discontinue it. I returned as soon as I opened the box and tried them on. Not comfortable (especially compared to other Keen models) but that could be my personal fit needs.
Thank you for trying the Targhee III Slip-On and sharing your feedback about how they fit and feel. We are sorry to hear that they did not have enough arch support for you and glad you sent them back. All of our feet are different and so we make a wide variety of shoes that each feature a slightly unique fit and feel to meet the needs of great fans like you. My go to all-around slip-on shoe.
I bought this shoe to replace an old pair of Merrells that had no tread left. After reading numerous reviews I decided to try these Targhee 3s, mainly because of the positive remarks about traction. I haven’t been disappointed. I use these shoes as knockabouts in rain or dry conditions and would probably use them in light snow. I don’t use them for the trail because I need laced shoes where my toes won’t bump up against the front of the toe box on downhill sections. Well made, comfortable and highly. recommended.
