Solid kit. If you're looking for something more like what you're used to using at home - this is it. The heavier base spreads out the hot spots you'd get from lighter weight cookware. The removable handle is great for the fry pan and smaller sauce pan, but a bit cumbersome for the larger 5QT pot, plus there is only one. If you are cooking two things at once, it can be a bit of a pain to swap the handle back and forth. I'd recommend picking up a second handle and finding silicone grips that fit for each side of that larger pot, so you can manage things better.
Never review anything, and this cookset inspired the review. Worth every penny of the cost if you can swing it, especially for those whole really like to cook in camp. Just used it on a 15 night car camping trip across US, at least twice a day. We cooked all kinds of things with this set. It was awesome in every respect. Nests nicely and is really compact for the volume of the pots. Removable handle is great. The carbon steel fry pan is fantastic. Follow the instructions for it if you are not used to carbon steel and it will last forever. The set is a throwback in some ways, with the weight and quality making you wish more things could be like that. Like they used to be. Great example of you get what you pay for. Happy trails!
It is great set! Although some people might not like it depends on what they need. First, this thing is heavy, it is not for lightweight carry around in backpack. Specially the big pot, if there’s food in the pot(probably stews) it will be hard to carry with the handle that provides. (It does have side handles on both side, so its not that big of deal) If you are looking for backpacking, this is not it. Otherwise this can be the set for your need.
We bought this cook set for our teardrop trailer where space is limited. The nesting design of the pots and pans, plus the removable handle is perfect. I thought parts of the handle would be made out of plastic, but to my surprise it is entirely metal. I think the entire set is truly well built. The pots have a thick bottom and sturdy sidewalls, helping with heat distribution and retention. The straining lids are also a really nice touch, it is pretty convenient to not have to carry around an extra strainer. But let me tell you about this pan. I'm a huge fan of cast iron cooking and I also really like carbon steel cookware, my experience being with woks specifically. This pan shot straight to my heart. If you're familiar with how to use carbon steel, it is an absolute breeze. Nothing sticks to it. Nothing. Camp cleanup has never been easier. The pan is so smooth that a spatula and a paper towel are all that is needed to fully clean it. I'm about to replace all the skillets in my house with carbon steel ones, literally cannot recommend it enough. The carrying back and pot mat are also really nice touches. Oxo designs really great products and I'm so happy that have gotten into the camp world!
Saw this set inside our REI and immediately noticed the weight. We purchased this set and the cookware all has a thick bottom, perfect for high heat cooking. It’s clear this set will last a long time with how durable they are. We used them for a few cooks already and have really enjoyed the set. The carbon steel pan is easy to clean without too much fuss. My only complaint is that the set come with one handle (which has its own storage pocket inside the bag it comes with). All in all very pleased.
So I just got this and opened it and on first glance this set is bomb proof. It’s so much thicker than normal camping pots. The metal seems very high quality. The carbon steel pan feels incredible. I’m anxious to us and see how it does! It’s very aesthetic as well. It’s pretty heavy and definitely not made to do any traveling with beyond from the shelf to the car, the car to the camp table. This set is for car campers ala Snow Peak.
So far I love cooking with these pots and the carbon steel pan ! Dont freak out when your pan changes colors a little, it even warns you in the little booklet that comes with it which i appreciated, because i am to return things quickly if i suspect they are cheap lol. I have been moving away from tephlon/ nonstick cookware and this is a fantastic alternative ! A plus that the handle comes off and you can use it for all 3, makes storing it easy and if you want to pack it up for camping ! Great set .
I just returned from 5-days car camping where I first used this cookware set. I used it on a liquid fuel Coleman stove. I am very pleased with it. After camping over 50 years with supermarket pots and pans I finally decided to find a decent, nesting set. What it is not: It is not lightweight. It is not suitable for back-packing or bike camping. (Maybe o.k. if you are camping with a pack animal!) What it is: It is a very well designed, heavy-duty, nesting set that fits well into its sturdy travel bag. The 2 pots and 1 frypan are heavy duty and conduct and disperse heat efficiently and evenly. The stainless steel cleans easily. The 2 lids for the 2 pots fit very nicely when in use; when nesting in the travel bag the lids are inverted so the lid handle is inside the pot, taking up less room in the travel bag. The lid handles are covered in a thin, efficient insulating material that keeps the lid handles from burning the cook's fingers. There is one (just one) well-designed removable handle that is easily moved from pots to pan and back, and has a positive grip. The User Guide explains that OXO consulted with REI in the design stages, which helps explain the excellent functionality and convenience of the set If I were living in a place with a small kitchen (apartment, Motor Home, Travel Trailer) this set would likely be the foundation for stove-top cooking. A few quibbles, which explain why I dropped 1 of the 5 stars: I wish there were a lid included for the fry pan. I contacted OXO to purchase 2 additional handles and they informed me additional parts are not available. "Contact Us" at the OXO web address cited in the User Guide is not useful for this product; it results in referral to a different division. I highly recommend the OXO Camp Cookware Set with Travel Bag for uses that do not require light weight.
Quality and weight looks and feels really great. Should cook food really well. I haven’t tried it yet but can’t wait to cook with this set . Packs in the spot I thought that it might, so that is a real plus for me . I will be using it in my truck camper .
We just had a chance to try this out this past week - and we loved it. The weight, the style, the performance were all excellent! And they pack down to a very convenient size.
