From the Mail to the Trail

This LS Shirt was ordered in boxcar greenish color to match pants & layers I use in cool & cold weather. My first use was as an outside layer. On a day-Hike after unpacking it, I completed the last section of the new "River to Clouds" 35 miles Trail in the Chattanooga - Lookout Mountain area, TN. It got the job done to perfection. Great shirt. Thanks.

Impressively functional

The material on this shirt is amazing. I wear it for running in the fall and spring between 0 and 10C and underneath a Squamish down to -10C or so. It wicks sweat like nothing else I’ve used before, and is super lightweight. My only suggestion and reason for 4 stars is the neck hole is massive. I don’t really know the purpose of this but it makes it less comfortable to wear for me. Otherwise the fit is perfect, next to skin through arms and chest, and a bit of room in the body with stretch all over. I do recommend this shirt as it is impressively functional but misses the mark a little bit with the fit.

Poor quality at the logo

Great quality overall, which is mostly the same with the Motus AR got last year. However, the logo went off after the first wash. Is this expected? Did I got a defect item?

Way too big

As others have mentioned - this is very voluminous. It is marketed as a first layer and that is, indeed, absolutely unusable for that purpose - loose and baggy. It's not next to skin, it does not wick, flaps around. It shows on the promo shots. I get it, the models are super skinny but it is equally flappy on normal people. Very different to Motus or the previous Phase lines. The Phasic material is, in my opinion, the best synthetic fabric ever made, I have been a fan for years, have 10+ pieces made of it. I will be keeping this as a relaxed fit long sleeve running shirt for the shoulder seasons. It will be fine for that. Just don't expect it to be a first layer where you would be putting things on top of it. It is not a bad shirt, it's just not what they say it is.

Perfect for People with Broader Shoulders

This shirt does fit larger, however for people with longer arms that usually struggle matching the width of clothes to the length, it is perfect. Usually I order an XL or a 2XL when I order long sleeves just so that the sleeves actually cover my forearms completely, however a size large of this works fine. It's not really mentioned, but this also has really convenient thumb holes to have the shirt cover the palms of your hands. Very thing, definitely plan on having more layers if it gets below 45.

Best Shirt I have ever bought

Best Shirt I have ever bought....Loved the shirt so much that I bought another one after wearing it for just one day. My one and only complaint is there is a very small selection (3 choices) of colours. If Arc'teyx had this shirt in a miltiude of colours I would buy many many more. Shirt has a great fit for me and it is made of exceptional material, it just wears amazingly! It is my first choice in the morning when I reach to put on a shirt

Great shirt!

Love this shirt! The fit is great! I wore it as a base layer under a down jacket in 10 degree weather above 13 thousand feet this weekend and was super comfortable even during high output times while carrying my children through difficult spots in the mountains. I’ve also worn it out downtown for a friends birthday dinner and got compliments on it all while being perfectly warm on a chilly night!

Perfect for colder months

Love this shirt. Perfect for running/hiking during colder months or just at home and around town. Super comfortable and light weight, wicks moisture and dries quickly. Material feels very nice on the skin and seems durable. Biggest plus is that it keeps me dry and comfortable inside. I never feel sweat dripping inside the shirt like other shirts I have.

Worse than what it replaced.

So I have been shopping Arc'teryx for the last 15 to 20 years. Since 2021 I have noticed a serious DECLINE in textile quality. The seams of everything seem to be well made still and are the up with the best I've seen. But Arc'teryx has been raising prices and decreasing quality for the last few years. In addition! Their sizing has been SUPER bad. I always would get a large for things made around 2020 or before. And now I wish I would have got a medium in this shirt. VERY ANNOYING. You are an OUTDOOR company, size your gear for people who are in shape. Quit adding a ton of belly room. Go back to slimmer fit. If you directly compare this Cormac Heavyweight to what it replaced the Motus LS there is no comparison. The Motus has SIGNFICANTLY better textile quality and better sizing. I really hope that Arc'teryx turns their brand around. All the Cormac textiles are inferior to what they replaced. Really disappointed with this company in recent years.

Hello Sanc, thanks for taking the time to share such a detailed and passionate review of the Cormac Heavyweight Shirt LS. It’s clear you’ve had a long relationship with Arc’teryx gear, and your insights carry weight. The Cormac Heavyweight uses Phasic™ AR II polyester for moisture management and thermal comfort, but it may lack the refined feel and tailored fit of older Motus pieces. Your frustration with sizing, especially the added room in the torso, is valid, and it’s something we’ve heard echoed by others who prefer a more athletic cut. Feedback like yours is crucial to refine our products and it will be shared with our design team.
