Feels a little large and isn’t tailored at all. Essentially they cut the fabric big enough in the hips/butt and went straight on down. Not flattering at all. I do like the 3 in length since most hiking shorts run really long on me (I’m 5’1”, 125 lbs, semi athletic build). I ordered a size small and usually wear a small. I didn’t think sizing down would help, because they fit well in the waist. The lack of tailoring in the leg is more the issue. Very durable material good for rock scrambling and hiking, but still soft and comfortable against the skin. I kept them because they were on clearance and made with a good material. Because the legs are so large I knew it wouldn’t be restrictive for any activity. Canyonlands is a strange color! All the photos are of the same shorts. It looks khaki in one then brown in another. Not a true light sand like the listing shows. Photos on body are of the other dark grey color.
I'm 5'1 with a very short torso (ie short-waisted) and an athletic build. I like that these are a true mid-rise and don't overwhelm my frame and/or come up to my ribcage. They fit my waist and butt though I wish the leg openings were a smidge tighter or the legs were a half inch longer for better coverage. I'm usually a size xs/small, 2-4, and these fit in an xs. If you're between sizes, definitely size down. The pockets are excellent and the material is sturdy.
Nice material and nice overall fit however they are too short! I am 5’2 113lbs and butt cheeks hung out - if I bend over forget it you see my whole butt. Seriously? What kind of hiking short is this? They are shorter than my running shorts. I got xs and they were large in the waist. I will exchange for a small and see if they lengthens them a bit. I do like the shorter than normal length cause I am short person. My old hiking shorts sat low on hips and rode up with my hiking pack.
Great material that feels sturdy and durable but unfortunately won't be able to try it because it ran very large. I'm 5'1, 135, and usually fall into the 8-12/large size range, but this large definitely felt more like an XL and barely even stayed up. The color was also off - ordered Darklands shade, which looks cream/beige online, but is very tan in person.
