So simple even a caveman could do it.

I don't like to buy things that are super complex, and I absolutely refuse to get anything that adds complexity to my life. So when looking for a bike rack for our new SUV, I wanted something simple and easy to assemble that wouldn't hinder our ability to open and close our trunk. Enter Saris Bones. This is by far the best bike rack. Quite frankly, the only bike rack I think I'll ever be recommending.

Easy install

Easy to install on a trunk if you read the instructions first. Bike fits snuggly. Be aware that you will need a bike bar to use it if you have a womens style bike frame. It will cost you an extra $50 that I don't have to pay because I am male. This sexist and if Saris won't fix it REI should.

Solid rack, not for MTBs or one person use

This is a really high quality rack, it felt solid and secured my bike. However, I returned it. First, I wanted something that I could install super quickly by myself---I absolutely needed two people to install it. Even then, it was difficult to hold the clips in place and hold the rack in place. Second, with my vehicle, you could not access the truck with the rack on (the clips slipped off too easily). Third, I didn't realize you needed an adapter bar for mountain bikes, which is what I wanted it for. And at another $50 apiece, I might as well just get a hitch rack.

2-bike carrier a breeze.

2-bike carrier was easy and quick to attach to both my car and my bike. Exactly what I needed for a quick turn around to another state.

Rack broke on the freeway after a few drives

I only used this rack 3 or 4 times then 20 miles in to a big road trip 2 of the 3 cheap plastic straps suddenly snapped and almost sent my bike flying off down the freeway. I had to pull onto the shoulder and disassemble the bike and toss it into the back of my car. Could have killed somebody or ruined my bike.

Cheap, bad purchase

Made of cheap plastic. Had one mountain bike secured and not even an hour into driving on the freeway, the two mounting points broke. The bike only hung on by a bungee cord that we added for additional stability. It’s merely a result of luck that the bike didn’t fly off completely and get someone killed.
