Excellent Approach Shoe to replace 5.10 Camp Four
For many years, I wore the 5.10 Camp Four Approach shoes, and loved them. Then the company stopped making the model I wanted, and I was forced to look around for something as comfortable, sturdy, and suitable for hiking, scrambling, and walking around. I tried the AKU Approach shoes, and this is my third pair (the first two are still in service). These are every bit as good as the Camp Four, and actually fit my busted up feet a little better (maybe a bit wider and higher volume). I'll keep buying these for as long as they keep making them.
Rugged Approach Shoe! Long Break-In
I found this to be a durable and highly functional approach shoe that feels very rugged and well built. I only have 2 critiques after using these for a few months. One: They seem to run large. I had to go down a size from my regular mens US size. Two: They had a long break-in period that caused blisters for a while since they are a stiffer shoe than I was used to. Outside of those issues I have no complaints! Just make sure they fit you and give some time to slowly break them in.
Hiking to Scrambling....Highly Impressed!
Very comfortable, supportive, and extremely grippy on wet, mossy trails to alpine granite rock climbing. Bought them 1/2 size smaller for a more performance fit, and ability to edge with them on rock. Great edging platform. The DFS Lacing is no joke, tighten it up for a more secure wrap of the foot eliminating toe bang on long descents. Highly recommend for folks with a little wider, higher volume foot.
Great on trails and in winter
I'm going into my second winter with this style and am very happy with how well it handles rugged trails and winter conditions. The dual lace system is brilliant!
