The Adapta has everything that is important to me in a backpacking boot; waterproof, fits well in the heel and allows my toes room, vibram outsole for awesome grip and is very stable, feels sturdy while wearing a heavy backpack. I like the looks of the boot - looks modern and old school at the same time. I feel very secure and stable wearing this boot while carrying a heavy backpack
Aku - I[' never heard of them and am not sure if the model I have is the same. I think so, anyhow. I've been wearing La Sportivas for years, great fit for me, but got fed up with their leather breaking open after 8-9 months, always in the same place too. To be fair, I wear them every day, all seasons. OK, it was time for something else;. It has been 18 months now and my Aku's leather has held up, nearly perfectly, under identical wear conditions. There are small pieces out of the sole, but it hasn't hurt anything. The insides are wearing out; they no longer fit as well as when they were new, my feet flop around in them. And the inside fabric above the heel is wearing out, making them hard to get on now. .But twice as long on the leather, no cracks, no rips. And they are still waterproof. Before with la Sportiva and other brands, the waterproofness died after 3 months or so. The fit is not perfect for my particular oot, but, darn, they are a well made boot and have earned my recommendation.
