The Specter 2 is an improvement to the V1 and fills in admirably as a do-it-all daily trainer (and occasional racer) but it still feels "off" in the midsole. It has excellent energy return and can be run at any pace well but, for those (like myself) hoping for a Cyclone 2 with more stack, it comes up a bit short. It has the excellent fit and stride-feel you can expect from any Topo shoe can fill many roles in a rotation, but isn't the big upgrade over V1 some might hope for. I'm running it alongside my Cyclone 2s in my rotation as my long run shoe where it does everything I need.
I put 80 miles on them so far. At first I was a little disappointed because I'd been running in the Atmos now for almost a year. These are definitely firmer than the Atmos, and the fit a bit more snug. Also, seemingly not as durable, being that I got 500 miles on the Atmos. I don't think these will hold up for 500 miles; if they get four hundred I'd be happy. Wouldn't be surprised if they came in around 350 miles durable. Being used to the Atmos, at first I thought these were too firm. But after about 20-30 miles I got used to them and prefer the feel of the Specter 2. They have more bounce, are more responsive, lighter, and you get more road feel than the Atmos. At first they felt too snug, but after adjusting the laces and putting some miles, they feel great. Again, the only thing (I'm predicting) is it's not as durable as Atmos. I'm talking about the outsole durability. I think the midsole foam (TPU) is even more durable and will stay bouncy for a longer period than Atmos. It's not breaking down at all so far.
