Great Value Entry Level Daypack.

Great entry level basic daypack. I've had the previous generation of this pack for about 3 years ago, and have used it frequently on day hikes out in the Shenandoah National Park, the Appalachian Trail, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Hawaii, Dominica and Juneau AK. It holds extra layers, my rain jacket, first aid kit, headlamp, external battery for my phone, snacks and 3L of water in one of the best hydration bladders I've used. Also has a nice easy access pocket at the top of the pack for things you need quickly. Aside from the main compartment and top pocket, Idon't really use the mesh water bottle pocket on the side of the pack, as its pretty tight when the pack is full. I also wish the pack had loops for trekking poles, but I get by using REI pack mod bungies to attach the poles to loops on the front of the pack. In rainy conditions, I use a REI XS Duck's Back Rain Cover to keep the pack from getting too wet as well. Overall, I definitely recommend Gregory products and this bag as a small entry level day back.

Could be great but missing a few key features

I’ve had this bag for about a year now and overall it’s ok. The basics of the pack geometry and layout are great, but there are a few key things about it that really annoy me and make it less functional. First, the good things: imo this pack carries well and is a good size for a day pack. It doesn’t feel like 22L when it’s on your back, and I like the drawstring closure with the buckle on the lid. It’s easy to open and close and allows you to stuff something like a jacket under the lid if it won’t fit inside the bag. I also really like the separate hydration bladder pocket and the included bladder - it’s easier to clean than my camelbak bladder, and it’s never leaked on me. Now, the bad: my number one annoyance with this bag is the water bottle pocket/outside pockets. There’s one mesh bottle pocket on the left side of the bag that does NOT fit a standard liter nalgene - it doesn’t even fit a smaller skinnier bottle! Any of the bottles I’ve tried in this pocket will fall out eventually because the mesh is not stretchy and the pocket is too small. It’s pointless and annoying. The zip pocket on the other side of the bag imo is also too small to be useful, it could be good for a phone but it’s about 1” too small to fit an average sized smartphone. Maybe it would fit a clif bar? I don’t find the bungee straps useful either and wish they were replaced with a big stretchy outside pocket to hold things like sunscreen, snacks, or trekking poles. I also wish there were 1-2 gear loops or daisy chain attachments somewhere on the outside of the bag, as I often use this for bouldering and want to clip my shoes to the bag but can’t. tldr; bag is fine and the price is good, hydration bladder is great, outside pockets suck and don’t fit things in them.

Gregory makes the best packs!

I have a 65L pack by Gregory that I use for backpacking and it's awesome. So I wanted to try out one of their smaller backpacks to use for day hikes. I've taken this backpack on a number of day hikes in Maine and New Hampshire and I love it! It has padding along the back and in the shoulder straps which I would expect to weigh the pack down more but it's remarkably light. The back panel is vented so it remains cool against my back even on warm and humid days. The weight of the pack is effectively distributed across the various straps (shoulders, sternum, and waist). There is plenty of storage and space across the bag. There's plenty of room in the main compartment and then there's a brain, a side pocket for easy access to snacks, and a tether on the front for stowing a jacket or a seat pad. There's a pocket for a bottle on the side in addition to a very nice 3L water bladder in the back. This bag can go the distance and has space and accommodations for anything you'd need for a day hike. On top of all of that though, it's exceptionally comfortable and feels nimble. I've never worn a backpack so comfortable before that also has room for everything I could need. Gregory has made the Goldilocks of backpacks!

Love it, very comfortable!!

Gregory packs speak quality, I also have a backpacking pack by Gregory and it is great and I'm enjoying this daypack just as much. I've been able to take this on a few short day hikes (3-5 miles) and it's a great pack. I'm 4'11 and it fits me well, sometimes that can be difficult, but the adjustments worked well to get a nice fit. I had the 3L bladder full each time I took it out and I honestly barely knew I was carrying a pack. It is roomy right down to the zipper pocket on the lid and the mesh pocket on the side where I carried my grandson's water bottle on one of my hikes. The chest strap is great and has a magnet to hold the water bladder hose which is really nice. Nothing rubbed or irritated my arms or back. The water bladder is great, and well made and thought out. The hose disconnects for easy cleaning, the magnet spins so you don't struggle with the hose when attaching to the chest strap magnet. There is also an opening on both sides of the pack so you can choose which side you want to thread the hose through. There is a separate zipper compartment to hold the bladder and the bladder has a substantial "handle" that serves well both when filling it and removing it from the pack. The hook to attach the bladder inside so it stays upright is also substantial. This will become my new go-to day pack, I loved everything about it, mostly that I forgot I was even carrying it! If I were to change anything I might add a pocket on the side that doesn't have one in case you want some extra things handy, but for a day hike it's not really necessary, I can't say I missed it! If you're in the market for a daypack, this is a great choice, I highly recommend it!

Great pack for medium hikes

I took the backpack out on a 4.5 mile hike in the mountains. This is a great pack for medium-long hikes with it's ability to hold 3l plus a water bottle on the side. Big enough to stash jackets if you're wearing layers. I really liked the side pocket as I was able to reach in without having to remove the pack so getting my earbuds was super easy. I like the cinching feature to close the main part of the pack, I think it's so easy to open and close. The hook that holds the water bladder is really sturdy and I wasn't worried about the bladder falling and slouching down like I would with a Velcro holder. This pack feels sturdy and like it will last a long time! The material is thicker than some of my other packs. My only complaint is that there are no loops for trekking poles which is the only thing that might keep this from being the best bag for a longer trek if you like to carry them with you. You could probably figure a way to rig them to the drawstring cord if you really needed to.

Great for Long Day Hikes and Travel!

I love this backpack! I have been hiking with it for a few months now. It has served me well! I will say, I probably should have gone with the slightly smaller version for my height and that fact I was using it for day hikes, but it fits everything I need for climbing to a peak! Love the color, so pretty in person. Very comfortable straps and I always feel secure with it on my back. I do wish it had a whistle on its buckle, but that’s ok. Such a convenient pocket on the side, too! Would definitely recommend. I’ve also flown with this as my free personal item bag, and it’s been great at being compact and roomy at the same time.

Day Pack Ender

I have been through several day packs with hydration built in and have finally found my winner. The Gregory pack is well laid out with various compartments that come in handy while on the trail. Not only does this help with efficiency while hiking but also keeps you from having to take the pack off each and every time you need something (e.g. sunscreen, lip balm, etc...) which is easily placed in the side pocket. Love...Love..Love..the cinch top, small feature with huge benefits in my mind. The back padding is very light and while breathable it does not provide much support for heavier loads. This is fine with me as I am typically using this pack for day hikes only. Sizing is something to be aware of as the standard size does seem to run a bit small. For guys would recommend stepping up to hte plus size as just fits better whereas the standard seems to be more catered to female sizing. Overall great pack and the color is Bomber!!!

Great hiking backpack

I am reviewing the Gregory Nano 22 H2O Hydration Pack, Color: Red Rock. For reference, I am a curvy woman and I weigh 155 pounds and I’m 5’4”. I really like the color Red Tock. I also like how the water bladder fits securely in the backpack. Drinking from the water bladder is convenient and easy. It does not leak . All the closures are easy to close and open although the chest strap took a little figuring out on my part , but once I figured it out, it was easy. Lots of room for carrying stuff, and I like the lacing on the outside for storing shoes or extra layers that you may be carrying . This backpack Is a little too big for my chest size. But that doesn’t bother me at all. It is super light weight as well, which I really appreciate on long hikes. I highly recommend it .

Great for hikes but not the most durable

I loved the color way of the product which was very vibrant and fun, but smaller problems with the product are why I would give it five stars. I thought the many smaller pockets were incredibly useful for organizing my gear and conveniently storing essential gear like my wallet in an accessible area. I did experience three problems: Firstly after my first hike with it which was 10 miles I had to do some rock scrambling and the bottom of the bag got a hole in it after one use since it scratched against the rocks, so the material isn't tear resistant. The waterbottle is too small/ rigid so it didn't easily fit my 21 oz skinny hydroflask but it was nice for securely holding my gopro, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Finally my only other problem with the pack is the rigid inside back structure which is nice while hiking but you can't comfortably utilize the pack for biking or other activities since it restricts your back from curving too much.

A backpack with hidden surprises!

The Gregory Nano 22 H2O Hydration Pack is a true revelation for outdoor enthusiasts like me. While its prowess as a water carrier and carry bag is remarkable, there's more to its brilliance. Little did I know, a hidden magnet on the water mouthpiece provides an ingenious solution for bikers – it conveniently attaches to your chest, eliminating the risk of loss while biking. This feature, coupled with its versatility, ergonomic design, and durability, makes the Nano 22 H2O a must-have outdoor investment that surpasses all expectations.

Great for long day hikes!

I really like the Gregory Nano. This is a great pack for long or short hikes. I did not have any back, shoulder, or neck pain after a 14-mile day hike which I have with others. I am a small person 5’2” so I found the pack a perfect size. My two wishes for this bag to make it a perfect bag for me would be: adding organization pockets in the large section (that’s just personal preference). The second would be to make the magnet stronger where it connects my hydration tube to the strap. I bumpt it off a few times and just thought it may have needed a better magnet. Otherwise, I love this bag. I love the blue/tan/orange color combo as well.
