Pretty Easy Peasy
A lace broke on my X Ultra 5 Low where the lace emerges from the eyelet at the top of the shoe (gets the most wear). These have been my everyday shoes for 9 months. I received the lace kit promptly from REI and was able to successfully replace the lace with minimal effort. The instructions are in the form of icons (like IKEA) and pretty simple to follow. I did use a very small screwdriver to tease open the eyelets before trying to thread the lace through the eyelets. From this experience I do recommend this kit. I am in a wait and see mode to find out how they hold up over time, other reviewers did have issues.
did the job
I see a lot of reviews of people saying they had a hard time installing the laces & following the instructions, no idea what they're talking about it was incredibly easy and straightforward. The holes are kind of small but idk i just persevered and replaced my lace on my ACS+ OG (coolest shoes ever please restock in black size 6.5W) in under 10 min. The resilience and strength of the lace is yet to be seen as i just installed. Minus one star bc it has a weird large plastic connector for the lace instead of a rubbery type of situation like the original lace that came with the shoe.
Shoes ok. Laces not.
The laces wear out quickly and are expensive and a pita to replace. I’d give no stars if possible. Also the laces tend over time to cut thru the eyelets. Very poorly thought out system although I suspect it makes more money that way. Surprisingly, I like the old tech amphibian shoes. That’s why I keeping thru this. Unsurprisingly they are much better than the new ones. I no longer buy Salomon shoes just based on the laces.
6 months of use and they are falling apart
Well, I’m on my second pair of laces in six months. These ones only lasted about 30 days before snapping. The tread is super grippy, but it rips off in chunks. The arch support is excellent, but the toebox is much too narrow, and all the bindings and loops are tearing and deteriorating. 4/10 rating
Bad Quality didn't last a month

New laces are great. You will need a lighter for install.
Difficult replacement
Even after cauterizing the lace ends, it is very difficult getting the replace laces through shoe islets. Takes forever and multiple tries to push laces through each islet. If lace ends were wrapped in an inch of hard plastic that would help. Also, it’s difficult pushing laces through the locking mechanism. For previous replacements, you’ve sent laces with loops at the end. Still, it’s tough getting laces through shoe islets but I’ve been able to pull laces through by attaching a paper clip to the loop and pulling hard (usually with a pliers). Not optimal by any means. It is nice to be able to replace laces, but a better, user-friendly system would be great.
Bad first and last experience.
The product arrives without instructions. When you finally surrender to Youtube, you won't find a tutorial that actually depicts this particular product. These 'quick laces' are specially designed for the Salomon shoes that have tiny pockets to tuck the remainder string into. Because the lace is not elastic, once you have the fit you want, there's no space between outward facing tongue and laces to tuck the loose ends of the laces into. I'm very familiar with some kind of crimping implement that attaches to the end of the laces that you can hook to the crossed laces nearest the toe. Not with this product. Of course I bought 2 counting on the ease of previous products by other brands.
Not as durable as older model
This is my second set of the newer quick laces within 6 months. I have the Speed Assault 2 and the laces keep snapping around the last loop by the ankle. I also have multiple pairs of the XA forces that are over a year old and I have had no issues with the quick laces on those. I’ve worn Salomon boots for years and have never had this problem with the older model of the quick laces. It appears that the durability of the newer quick lace system is not as good as it once was.
Fantastic concept, horrible execution (for boots)
I love my Salomon shoes, so I figured their boots would be great as well. Enter the XA Forces Mid. They use quicklace and they absolutely DO NOT hold up, at all. I have replaced the laces 6 times in less than 2 years. The boots maybe have 25-30 miles on them, MAYBE. The lugs on the sole are practically new, but the laces keep separating and breaking; they simply are not ideal for a boot, much less a tactical boot.
