An essential for outdoor enthusiasts!
My Alpenglow Pro Hoody is probably one of my favorite pieces of clothing that I take on every rock climbing adventure. I love how the sleek material especially in the hood fits nicely under my helmet and shields me from the sun, especially for those times when I'm projecting a route and spending a long time in the sun. ---Gory details warning--- On my first time wearing it, I was climbing a route and happened to take a fall and sliced a chunk of my finger. There was blood everywhere on my hoody and at first I was upset thinking wow of course I ruined it immediately but literally minutes later to my surprise it just rolled off it- no stains. I was so impressed that I convinced my partner to get one, and it's become our staple. I'm a huge fan of Black Diamond's quality equipment, and would definitely recommend this hoody!
Comfy and Cool
This is a very comfortable sun sweater. It was surprisingly cool for being a darker color, at least in 60 degree weather. I’ll see how it does when it gets hotter out. The hood is a great size for climbing. The finger holes are great for some hand coverage. The only thing I wish it had is some side pockets. Ordered another one in yellow.
Ever only Alpenglow Pro
It's only Alpenglow Pro Hoodies for me when hiking and biking in the long Alaska sun filled days, when climbing Kilimanjaro on safari or when hitting the hot Utah trails while visiting my son there. Comfortable, breathable, and styling to go from mountains back to the city for a cool down beverage. Three of these hoodies are in my closet and no doubt there will be more.
Not Durable
I was so excited about this new redesign of the alpenglow hoody. It’s got a great fit on my petite build, very soft and kept me cool and protected in hot dry CA summer weather. The design is great, the material is where this hoodie falls short. What I am super bummed about is that after only ONE 8 mile hike, the fabric that was under my pack straps and at my cuffs is already pilled and worn. Just 6 hours in on a pretty mild day hike and it already looks like I’ve had it for years. For the high price of this garment I expect a lot more durability than noticeable wear after one use. I wouldn’t recommend this to my friends for this reason.
So far so good
Fit: true to size Weight: it is a bit on heavier side I just got this hoody and used it while hiking overnight at the Grand Canyon, yesterday. I like the underarm mesh for extra breathability. It felt comfortable, keeping me cool and warm at the same time. Except, the sweat on my lower back took a bit longer to dry and with the wind at the upper portions of the trail made me cold. I rate it at 5 because other than what is in the online description, I didn't know what to expect and so far so good.
Pffff, Heat Wave Shmeat Wave!
So far very happy with this hoodie. It's a bit thicker and heavier fabric than my REI Sahara sun hoodie, but with the zipper and the pit vents, it was still comfortable in the recent California heat wave. Also, it added a bit of warmth at night, which was unexpected. I usually wear a men's small, but went for the women's cut this time, and it fits well, not too clingy. We'll see how it wears with time, but so far so good if you're willing to have a bit heavier material for the sun hoodie.
Super soft not super durable
Bought this one for alpine climbs. Took it up the east ridge of Bancroft this past weekend . While this piece performed well over all it was not as abrasion resistant as I would have liked. It did tend to snag on rocks which is fine that’s not really preventable when rock climbing, what was sad was that there was abrasion and pilling where my pack strap rubbed on the pocket. Over all I would buy it again. It is buttery soft and kept me from burning which is perfect it also fit nicely over my helmet. Just wish it hadn’t worn so quickly. IWILL be taking it on an expedition with me soon and will check back in after. I would give it 3.5/5 but can’t so I will go with 4/5 stars.
Great lightweight hoody
The material feels silky smooth & breathes well. At first I thought it was a little heavy but I seem to be wearing it everywhere, so I guess not. The fit is a little loose on me. I ordered a women's size small. The sleeves are the right length but it is loose. I'm 108 pounds, 5'4" - so maybe a XS would be better. The hood fits well both under & over my helmet. The thumbholes are nice. The left chest zip pocket can stretch to fit my iphone 11. The color (blue ash) looks more slate to me - it's a really nice color & goes with everything. I recommend this hoody for both alpine pursuits & hanging out.
My new favorite sun hoody
Just bought my second Alpenglow Pro. I used to HATE wearing long sleeves in the sun, but when I realized I actually stay cooler in this hoody, I was sold. The material is uber light and soft, the zip allows me to let off some extra steam when needed, and the mesh armpits keep air flowing. The hood is large enough to fit over a helmet and the thumbholes are great for extra coverage.
Can’t beat the Alpenglow pro
Best hoodie for hiking that I have. It fits perfect, light weight and seems to keep we a bit cool on a warm day but somehow keeps me warm enough when a bit cool. Can’t saw enough good things about this product and the colours are great.
