Almost perfect - REI please read
This hat is almost perfect. The only issue is that it's not very breathable. The mesh lined vents are ineffective for a couple reasons. One, the mesh is a separate piece of fabric sewed into a large part of the inner side panel effectively making it insulated. Two, the ventilation slats are way too small and air doesn't move through them well. REI READ THIS: make the side panels all mesh - no double layer. Or add laser perforations all along the sides and ditch the mesh and vents all together. This will make the hat perfect and I'd pay 50% more for it.
Perfect size, always handy hat
Love the hat. Very easy to fix the size whether I wear my hair up or down. Folds easily into purse, and always looks great. This is my second one.
Perfect for me… needs more colors!
I wear hats all the time. I tried on every single hat in REI. I am a 6’1” guy who has such a narrow head that I usually wear youth size hats because 1 size fits all hats are usually way too big for me. This was the only hat in the entire store that fit well on me. I got online after purchasing it in the store so I could buy more colors….. the I realize this is the only color. That is very disappointing, as I probably would buy any color they offer for this hat. Please make more color options!
Great fishing and hiking hat
This is the 3rd folding brim hat from REI that I have bought. The first one got faded and stained after about 100 days use as my primary fly fishing and hiking hat. It’s light wt. fast drying and the sunglass holder is great. Bought a new one to use for overseas travel and lost in the ocean when a sudden breeze blew it into the surf while fly fishing for reef fish. My new one is the replacement for that. I still use the old faded one for my day to day hiking and fish even after three years use.
So nice I bought it twice
Lost my original after several years of regular use. Loved that it was packable due to the folding brim and dried very quickly. Went to buy another some time ago and was bummed that REI no longer sold it. I was super excited to see it back it stock.
New version is UNCOMFORTABLE!
Previous iteration of this hat was VERY VERY comfortable. They made changes and now it feels tight near the temples even when the strap is disconnected in the back. The folding seam is also less durable. I prefer the old version.
This is Too Small for People with Big Heads
I'll admit I have a somewhat large head, perhaps because everyone says how great I am, but almost all caps can be adjusted to fit my head. This one, even with the adjusting strap at its limit, is too tight. I'm hoping it will stretch some.
Love this cap - please make more colors!
I LOVE that I can bring this hat with me anywhere - it even fits in my daily purse (which is not that big!). I can be prepared for the sun without having to wear it all day if I don't want to. It also looks pretty good considering that a) it's a boring gray hat and b) it folds and technically has a crease down the middle. I don't think you can even really tell it's a folding hat though, when wearing it, unless you're looking for it. My only complaint is that I wish there were more color options, because I want to buy another one!
Great hat but design needs work
Got the current version on sale and, meh! The brim is two part of course but the hat material is stretched over the brim and seems like it will not last. I've got the previous version and it is the bomb. Sturdy and durable. This version seems like "athlesiure" wear instead of a durable garment.
Good hat
I was skeptical to buy since the brim folds in the middle thinking it would have a triangular shape. Pleasantly surprised it looks great. I have a small head and this is just slightly too big. Nice fabric
