The Gold Standard for All-Day Riding Comfort
These bib shorts have the perfect design for long-distance comfort and performance. After putting them to the test the last two weeks, it is clear that every detail is engineered to solve the problems that I faced on extended rides. The heart of these bibs is what PEARL iZUMi calls the “Levitate PRO chamois”. It provides exceptional support through its multi-density construction, while the floating top sheet virtually eliminates friction. Furthermore, the pad's edges are tapered to be incredibly thin, creating a seamless transition to the surrounding fabric. This design makes it feel like a single, continuous support system rather than a separate pad with a noticeable edge. On the road, this translates to a complete lack of hotspots, pressure points, or chafing, allowing for many hours in the saddle without giving comfort a second thought. Initially when the bibs arrived and before I used them, I was skeptical of the fabric. It felt stiffer than the shorts I was used to using previously. However, The Italian fabric used in these bibs offers the perfect level of compression, supporting muscles without ever feeling restrictive. This creates a "second-skin" fit that is both high performance and incredibly comfortable. A standout feature is the laser-cut leg openings, which keep the cuffs perfectly in place without any pinching after riding for extended periods. The cargo pockets are virtually unnoticeable. They provide secure and easy-access storage for my phone and wallet. Even the straps are well-designed, using a lightweight and breathable material that you truly forget is there. For sizing reference, the official chart placed my measurements directly between a Large for my waist and an X-Large for my chest. I opted for the larger X-Large, and it proved to be the perfect choice. The fit is secure and highly compressive, particularly around the thighs, just as performance apparel should be. This is especially true for older riders like me, whose core measurements may be proportionally larger than their chest, when compared to the sizing chart posted as of September 2025. If you find yourself in that situation between sizes, I would confidently recommend the larger option, as the smaller size would have been too restrictive for me. Every element of these bibs works in harmony to create a superior riding experience. They are an exceptional piece of equipment for anyone who prioritizes comfort and performance on endurance rides.
