I purchased three pair 3+ yrs ago. Love the style, fit, color options. stretch fabric, wicking, and comfort. Like the flush pockets, including the spring-loaded zipper pocket on right front leg (and now in back as well). After 3+ years I noticed heavy pilling of the fabric and some of the stitching coming lose, so just purchased four replacement pair. (If I find a good thing, I tend to stick with it!) All the positives still stand, HOWEVER, after two washes I'm starting to see pilling of the fabric in the front pocket area; not a good sign of longevity! I'll probably keep for the positive attributes mentioned, and just deal with the pilling via a disposable razor gently across the areas of pilling, but agree with another comment: Stop always trying to "improve" something.
While these pants are light and breathable, they are ridiculously baggy. Looks nothing like the product photos unless the model has calves like tree trunks, and they're not visibly cinched. They're also longer than the advertised 30" inseam, causing them to bunch up significantly. I was hoping these would be a pair I could wear to the office and on the trails like my Zions, but they look like sweatpants, so I'll likely be returning them. For reference, I'm 5'10" and 150 lbs and ordered the 30x30 in Pewter.
The comfort, style, fit, and look of these pants is outstanding. They are so comfortable and so versatile, and I could wear them in any setting. They are lightweight, but not too lightweight, and very breathable as well. However, and this is a big however, I have only had these for less than 6 months, almost exclusively casual wear, and the pilling is terrible. Not only that, random threads have popped out that I have had to cut off. I would therefore consider the durability and quality of these pants to be atrocious. I am so disappointed because up until they started falling apart, they were by far my favorite pants.
Sad to have to write this review. I've been an Outdoor Research loyalist for years, especially the Ferrosi pants. As an active 50-something, I have four pairs of them. The originals were perfect. The next "improved" version got slimmer and tighter but still fit great and I wear them constantly. Now you have "improved" them again and they fit like a teenager skinny pant. How can the same size of the same product fit so ridiculously different. Either go back to a fit that most of us can wear or I'll take my loyal business somewhere else. Good fitting pants are hard enough to find. When you nail something, stop trying to "improve" it!!!
These are a decent update on the classic ferrosi pant. The fit is amazing for me, but may run a little tight in the waist as far as 32-32 pants go. The material is unbeatable if you are looking for a 3 season outdoor pant, that can also be used as business casual. I am very glad that they didn't go with a sown-in belt like a lot of other styles these days. My biggest issue is the pockets. The front pockets are very hard to get your hands into to grab or deposit anything. They should have lowered the opening. And the thigh zipper needs two hands to close which defeats the purpose of that pocket. The zipper should be vertical. Overall a little disappointed.
As a female constantly annoyed that women's active/hiking pants are either too low rise skin-tight (that's a whole entire other rant on its own)....I am proud to say that I have finally hacked the system. I'm normally a size 4 or 6 women's (the size 4 in the women's ferrosi pant being skin-tight down to my knees; the size 6 had weird puckering for where my hips "ought" to fill in the pant). Essentially, I'm a pretty athletic build - 5'10", with smaller legs but just was seeking a straight/relaxed pant for hiking and scrambling. If you're in the same boat as me...please consider the men's pant in either a 28 and 30. THEY FIT!!!
Not a fan. I really like the material and pockets but the lower legs are just so baggy and even in the short version they are way too long. The worst part however is the synch at the bottom of the legs. It is very cheap and the piece of plastic comes off almost immediately and constantly. There is so much material that you have a 6 inch cord hanging out if you don't want to listen to your pants swish while you walk. Great material, great pockets, however we would like to see an additional stretch phone pocket inside one of the hand pockets like many other brands include in addition to a tapered cut and improved synch. 3 stars.
I've had these pants for over 3 months. They are quickly becoming my favorite pants. They are very light weight, dry very quick if they get wet, and breath enough to wear when it is hot out. The only downside to these pants is that they are designed so well for hot weather, I'm probably not going to be able to wear them much now that fall/winter is here. The wind does go right through them. Not a design flaw, that is what they are supposed to do, but I like them so much that I hate putting them away for the winter. If you are looking for warm weather pants, go with these. I already ordered 2 more pair in different colors.
I like the fit feel and design of theses, I'm not a huge fan of the draw string on the waist, just ends up in my way. The bungee cord drawstring for the cuffs will be very nice for backcountry use, annoying for casual. BUT the reason for the ones start is the material, it is no where near as my original pairs of these that I've had for years! It less durable has more pilling after about 4 washes then a pair with the old material that is about 7! years old and doesn't shed water the same. I'm all for new materials but not if they are a massive compromise, which this is. I wish i had bought more of the old ones when I could.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been rocking the Ferrosi pants since they first came out. The second generation were horrible (fit off, no rear zippered pocket). But, the latest gen is OUT OF THIS WORLD PERFECT!!! I have eight or nine pairs (every color that's been made). These pants are PERFECT for hot weather full length coverage with protection from the sun and nature. I use them exclusively while traveling (currently in Japan). The side pocket fits a US passport perfectly (I can fit three FYI). And, the new cuff cinch is flawless.
