Great day pack for skiing.

I have used this pack for a week of skiing in the Alps and am very satisfied. It’s light and comfortable. The main compartment has a divider for easy storage of things. The smaller zipped pocket seems to be adequate for goggles or other small items. There are other exterior pockets which don’t zip - I would prefer more pockets with secure closure of some sort. The straps seem very lightweight compared to my other packs, but are secure so far and the pack comes with a great guarantee in case of malfunction.

Nice German backpack

A surprisingly comfortable backpack. I am 5' 2" so not all backpacks are comfortable, usually when utilizing the straps across the front. The chest strap has some elastic, so it seems to have some give if needed while hiking. It fit well over several layers of clothing. There are several interior pockets, and the interior features some First Aid/Safety info in English and German. You can definitely stuff in a coat, accessories, hike book and snacks. I noticed there is an option to use a water bladder with this backpack. The feature I was actually most impressed with was the fact the water bottle holders on the side....actually held the water bottle and did not fall out when bending over. This is frequently an issue for us in the past. As a side note I saw the tag said it is made without PFAS which is important to me.

Great daypack with all the little features!

I really like this bag overall. I own 6-7 different day bags that get used between family members and so far this is my favorite one of them. We've used it several times now and it just has everything you need and is very comfortable to wear. My last hike i went on with a few friends, it had a raincoat, hat and gloves in it at different points. I think it could have easily held all 3 of our raincoats if we needed to shed them. Dueter does a great job of always doing the little things with their gear which is great. For example, they have routing for a bladder tube and safety signals printed on the inside. I also liked that it has a little sunglasses holder(I have a bad habit of losing when I set them on a rock to remove layers). Btw I also have another dueter daypack and 2 larger dueter multiday backpacks and they have all held up impressively well so I suspect this will last a long time as well

Subtle but effective update to a great pack

I always appreciate when a company takes the input of its customers to improve a product, especially when doing so isn't actually a major overhaul. The Speed Lite series of packs (last I counted there were at least 8 including the women-specific fits) is pretty solid, built very lightweight with some good features and a good variety of sizes based on needs. The 21 is about right in the middle, enough for a lightweight overnight or a longer day hike. A few obvious improvements made in this iteration: -The stretchy pocket on the back of the pack now has wider access, it's a great place to stuff a light rain jacket. There are some stiffeners sewn into the edge which help keep things from wiggling out. The size is good and the access is improved, easier to stuff things into. -The chest strap is much easier to adjust vertically. Gone is the tricky clip, replaced by a more standard rail system for quick and easy adjustments. -The water bottle pockets seem taller for a better hold. You can see in the pictures they hold a 32oz stainless bottle and a smaller bike-style bottle well. I can even fit my monster dog bottle with a built in bowl, though I'm worried it'll stretch the pocket out over time. -The side cinch straps have moved down a bit more for better control. -The zipper pulls are smaller, I'm on the fence about this one as I like the older style, easier to grab in gloves. And some of the things that aren't changed: -The waist strap comes off pretty easily, which is good as I find it sits a bit too high. -The shoulder straps are the right level of padding with the loop for sunglasses. -The hydration bladder pocket and hose port are both still there and well designed. -The SOS label is a great add without any additional weight. -The top pocket is sized well for keys, wallet, etc. There's honestly not a lot to improve, it's a well designed and well made pack. Possibly a small internal pocket in the main compartment to keep snacks from tumbling down to the bottom. Maybe a molded plastic clip for the hydration hose built into the left strap. I'm sure others will come up with more, but it's a really solid pack.

Truly light without shortcutting quality

I really love how light this daypack is without sacrificing quality. On the contrary, the feel of the materials, the zippers, clips, etc. are top notch and exceeds the feel and quality of heavier backpacks that I own. When using for a day hike or gym/training sessions, it has just the right amount of space. It does have a small laptop or tablet pocket, but, alas, too small for anything but the smallest laptop. It's really more of a hydration bladder size pocket with the day hike in mind. We have lots of trails here and I enjoy taking my dog on for which this is the perfect fit.

Great quality pack for day hikes

I’ve had my previous Deuter pack for almost ten years and it shows minimal wear despite weekly hikes and using it for travel. I have a feeling this bag will last as long, if not longer. Pros: - it’s the perfect size for weekend day hikes. I could fit snacks, layers, micro spikes, and a small first aid kit. - I was initially wary that the outer pocket lacked some sort of clasp on it, but it held a small pullover just fine. - Personal preference, but the shoulder straps fit great. Just enough padding for comfort but not too much structure that would add weight or cause chafing. I like that the waist straps can easily be removed. Cons: - I also have this complaint with my other Deuter packs; the water bottle pockets aren’t large enough. When you place a bottle in them, it compresses the interior of the bag, rather than expanding outwards. This creates less space for things packed inside the bag. The pack does have an internal pocket and opening for a camelbak, but I prefer water bottles. - The chest straps, even when moved high enough, compress my bust and create an odd shelf. One day, outdoor brands will figure out that women have breasts and how to design around them. Some day.

Great light pack

This is a very useful and well designed little pack. The volume is good enough for a day hike and it it is light enough to just grab and go for daily use. The water bladder pouch is adequate and there is a hanger to keep it in place; it's nothing special, but it works. The outer pouches are very nice to have - especially on the sides, which are great for water bottles. The straps are comfortable and very adjustable. It fits me just fine at 6ft tall and even my 3 year old can use it. Deuter is known for good packs and this an example of why that continues to be the case.

Perfect for College Days and Weekends

I gave this backpack to my college age daughter to use. It fits her perfectly. She loves how light and durable the backpack is for weekdays for walking around campus and weekend jaunts to the foothills and mountains. I love the durable material it is made with, including the straps, buckles, and the stretchy mesh compartments. When asking my daughter what she loves about it, she says she loves the colors (1206 linden-cactus), the stretchy outer pockets that can hold anything for quick access. She says the shoulder straps and back is comfortable and breathes when she is wearing it. A keeper!

Comfortable pack for neck/shoulder pain

Absolutely love this pack! I recently found out I have 2 herniated disks in my neck and needed to find a pack that was easier on my neck and shoulders. After lots of research and narrowing down options, I went for this one. The only thing I'd change is adding more pockets/compartments, but I understand that it has sacrificed pockets for being ultra lightweight. As I needed to reduce the amount of weight as much as possible, I went for this over options with more compartments, and I'm very happy with it. With the chest and hip straps on, the pack makes carrying a much more accessible and comfortable experience. I got it in green, and I'm obsessed with the color! Highly recommend!

Extremely versatile backpack!

This is the most versatile backpack I own! I use it for short easy hikes, dog walking, and fitness outdoor activities. What makes this backpack standout? It’s very lightweight, small bungee cables at the end of the 3 zippers allow you to place a clip/carabiner and close a pocket for security purposes. Elastic hoops allow you to hang your jacket or clip on a doggy bag holder or hang anything you desire. I can put the backpack in front or sling it in back.
