This bag is made out of high quality lightweight material. The material feels similar to some tent fabrics, but is a little bit thicker. The zippers are well constructed and the stitching is high quality. I am 6' tall and this bag is on the smaller side for me but still usable. My wife is 5'5" and it fits her perfectly. It has become her go to day hike pack. The bag has an internal water bladder holder and two external water bottle pockets. The water bottle pockets are perfectly sized for the water bladders that I use for my running vest. They also fit larger plastic water bottles, but it is a tight squeeze. The quick access pocket is slightly larger than most daypacks I've used, which is nice. I keep my keys, wallet, phone, snacks, and camera lens in this pocket and could easily fit more. Overall it is a well made pack with a surprising attention to detail in design. There is a place to hook your keys, a strap holder for sunglasses, daisy loops that I used for hiking poles, adjustable hip and waist supports, and even basic safety/first aid information printed inside the pack.
The Deuter Speed Lite 13 is a great little day pack! It's the perfect size to be able to confidently carry what you need - I fit two large hoodies in the compartment to see just how much I could shove in there! As a person who gets very sweaty I really appreciate the considerations Deuter has taken when building the backs of their bags! I definitely still had the classic back sweat spot on my back after my hikes/walks, but I appreciate that they have done what they can! I also appreciated the ability to adjust the chest strap height, as I find those often hit me in odd places! The hip strap does not feature the same adjustments but are easily be removed and I found I didn't super miss it during my walks/hikes. This is a small bag, which means the external side pockets are also fairly small and therefore will not fit a typical wide 32 oz water bottle. I was able to tuck in a 1 liter flexible water bottle though! I did also include a photo comparing to my Deuter 45L, both empty, for a size comparison!
The size of this bag is exactly what I need 9 times out of 10 for solo activities or activities with the kids. Used it the first time for a day ice fishing and kept kept some tackle, little bit of gear and water bottle. Otherwise, I have mostly used it for outings with the kids. They are too old for me to need a diaper bag but always need snacks and little things and this bag is perfect for that. My water bottle fits perfectly and is secure without having to jam it in. The little zipper on the top is great for small things - keys, small wallet, etc. This bag holds more than you would expect and is light as a feather while still having quality construction. This will definitely be my go to hiking bag for day hikes - will definitely be with me on our Iceland trip this summer. If I could change anything about it, I would have a little zipper on the front of the bag, as well, and include another side pocket to hold an additional water bottle. There isn’t a ton of organization but I wouldn’t expect there to be for a bag of this size or for its intended purpose. Both my husband and I wore it and could comfortably adjust it for our heights - he’s almost 6 feet and I am just over 5 feet tall.
Over the past few weeks I’ve had to opportunity to take the Deuter Speed lite 13 on a couple adventures. Here’s my take. The 13L seems almost smaller, making this truly a day pack. A couple snacks, water, dog treats and rain jacket later I find the pack filled to capacity. However that’s not necessarily a bad thing, the pack is good and being small. Wearing it for hours wasn’t uncomfortable and a the end of the day it fit everything I needed for a quick hike with the pups! Aesthetically pleasing with a vibrant orange color material that feels durable. The Speed Lite 13 is simple, two exterior water bottle sleeves, and two zipper compartments. The smaller is perfect for keys, snacks, or anything quick access. The larger has a sleeve for hydration and a neat feature on the outside of the small pocket showing some quick emergency tips. There’s also a sunglasses loop on the shoulder strap. Overall I’m pleased with the quality and usability. Just be sure 13L is large enough for your needs!
What a great little pack. I used the pack for two snowy, winter hikes. It easily held a second layer, my water bottle and some snacks. This pack is a great color (I have the orange one), it's nice and roomy and quite comfortable to wear. I didn't have anything heavy in it but it was extremely light on my shoulders. One think I really like it the Deuter promise, if for any reason there is an issue with the pack they will make it right. I've never owned this brand before, but what a great experience with this pack that I look forward to exploring other products they provide.
I like the light and minimalist design of the 13L especially for half day to out and back day hikes. Weather can change on a dime so room for layers is key as is hydration system compatibility. The placement of the chest strap is comfortable and keeps the pack positioned high while allowing good range of motion for scrambles. The ventilated straps and backrest didn’t transfer perspiration, and I liked that there were enough pockets (top zippered, two side) and compartments (inner hydration and main) to keep track of items, but not too many to lose track of things. The two exterior pockets keep small items handy and secure. The bag is compact enough to pack along on a longer trek too. I keep gear a long time and knowing that it is made from 100% recycled materials and the textile manufacturing process is in accordance to Bluesign standards for safety and low environmental impact is important to me.
This backpack was on my for three 16 hour days at a local "land" theme pack and I did not even notice it on. It is basic with one main pouch, a small top pouch for small items, and two side water bottle pockets. The main pouch fit light jackets, first aid kit, and snacks for two adults and two kids. The small pouch fit a few pairs of sunglasses and a sunscreen stick. The two water bottle pockets are narrow and fit skinny water bottles fine but I would not be able to fit my Nalgene in either of them. The straps and back pad have holes to allow some ventilation so you do not get too sweaty. There is a waist strap too but I did not use it. It is pretty thin so it would mostly be keeping the pack from flopping around while running or climbing. Overall the backpack did its job holding all the basic theme park essentials for each day. If it can handle 20k+ steps each day, long waits in lines, and brushing up against crowds for parades/fireworks, it can definitely handle any day hikes, trail runs, and climbs you can throw at it.
This is a well-made bag designed for the minimalist sojourner. There aren’t many bells and whistles to report. By design, this bag doesn’t have many extra pockets. Users will have to be concise in what they pack. If given the option, I would have offered 4.5 stars in place of 4. In principle, the design is sleek and smart. However, the straps aren’t ideal for wider shoulders. I thought the color was more of a rust, but it’s true to the peachy description provided by the maker.
This is a snappy little pack. I’ve used it for several weeks on short day hikes and backcountry nordic skiing (less than 5 mile trips). I was skeptical at first of the size but it easily holds a 2L water bladder, extra layers, food, headlamp and first aid kit. I find myself reaching for it over other small packs because it has enough structure to be more comfortable, without adding a lot of weight. The load is well distributed, it feels like it floats on my back! A couple things that could be improved: the side sleeves are narrow, I like to bring an insulated water bottle with tea on winter hikes and I could fit a narrow model but not a standard or wide mouth. I also don’t know if the waist belt is necessary given the small capacity. I preferred not using it with light loads. Finally, I wonder if the waist belt and shoulder straps will be comfortable in the summer with less padding, but with winter layers it was very comfortable. It’s definitely a go to pack for short excursions.
I don't have much experience with backpacks and just needed something for day hiking to carry water, extra layers and various sundries. This pack is lightweight and small but I can fit everything I need in it easily. It does not have a zipper-less front pocket that you can slip small things into but has slip-in pockets on both sides.
