Was excited to find a breathable hiking shoe and love my other Danner boots, so I was hoping these would be great too. Firstly - I think I've got fairly normal feet. Never had a shoe that fit weird, just some are more comfortable than others. This one was a first that actually hurts. The ankle support and bracing material is cut too high and pushes up on my ankles. Thought a week or so of total wear would mold them but the issue seems to have gotten worse. Will be taking these back unfortunately. On the plus side, the sole cushioning and grip are amazing - really wish these fit. My advice, check them out in store.
I bought these men’s shoes on sale at the store. I’m a woman with a wide forefoot and skinny ankles. I appreciate having more space in the toe box. I’ve been hiking in wet, muddy, steep, rocky areas and these shoes have been great, they are very grippy. I’m very happy with them.
Bought these specifically for Mt Washington via Huntington Ravine Trail. They did not disappoint. Great traction, good underfoot rock protection. They are a bit warmer than my trail running shoes but it was a hot day in the Presidentials and I did not have excessive foot sweat. I think they look pretty good, too. Another plus is that they are my usual shoe size. I’m tired of having to guess with each different brand and shoe. I would definitely buy again.
Very comfortable with nice bounce on each step. On first serious hike, the shoe got wet while crossing stream; after drying the next day the area where the top meets the top rubber shrunk resulting in scratching of the toe area on both shoes when used. Returned for refund. Not sure if just defect on this pair of shoe or it is a general problem. First time use of Danner brand hiking shoes.
Great so far! I’ve had these a few months and find them comfortable for daily use in all climates and springy enough to keep a quick hiking pace, walk an old dog, and keep up with my 6 year old. Short runs feel good, the soles are grippy, and they’re not too high-I usually wear 0 drops. Def need ankle-ish length socks, the cuf can rub and irritate on longer walks. I’ve broken these in and look forward to taking them on a full-day or through hike soon.
I really wanted to like this shoes. I couldn't try it in the store so I bought it to try at home. The show is very well made and the outsole is fantastic! The fit is very slightly larger than my usual size. The part I could not overcome is the fitting around the ankle. It's padding is a bit too thick so it rubs. I know it would not go away so I had to return the shoes. Hopefully they come up with a V2. If they fix this issue, I'll be a customer again.
The Vibram sole is great and overall extremely grippy, resistant to marring, and comfortable. The only thing stopping this from being 5 stars is the fabric lining behind the heel is not abrasion resistant and I had to put stickers over it to prevent the fabric from ripping apart entirely. For what this cost just spend the extra pennies on tougher lining where the heel rubs against the back of the shoe.
Though these look really cool and are well built, I found them to ultimately be a big disappointment relative to their high price and the reputation of the Danner brand. Pros: - Look cool. It's a good design, visually. (Unfortunately the curb appeal masks problems.) - High quality construction. neutral: - traction is fine. have experienced better. Cons: - Fit was strange for me: narrow and long... they definitely run large in terms of length. I am a 10.5 in Solomon, Merrell, Saucony, and others. When the 10.5 in these arrived, at first I thought they were too small given the narrowness. After a few uses, they broke in from a width standpoint and I realized they were in fact too long and my feet slide around in them without thicker socks and tight lacing. Really wish I gotten a 10 instead of at 10.5 but by then it was too late for a return. - Weird design choices: the thin neoprene tongue is really unfortunate, I feel the laces through it. The laces themselves are way too long, and being so thin, they dig through the thin tongue. I replaced them with a thicker shorter pair of laces. The pull on flap at the heel looks like a cheap afterthought that just catches pants. I am probably going to cut it off with scissors. Bottom line for me: too many annoyances and weird aspects in fit and design to justify the high price.
Some of the best shoes I’ve ever owned. First pair of Danners but trusted the brand on a blind purchase with no reviews and I’m so glad I did. I wear these as a daily worn shoe and they are comfortable enough, agile enough, and nice looking enough to wear to work and out walking the dog on trails. Awesome job, Danner. And thank you REI! Highly recommend these shoes.
Good price on these quality Danner shoes. This must have been one of a kind, as it was marked 30% off regular price, which I would not have paid. REI has great product selection, but in general the prices are too high unless they have a sale or I find good used items there.
