Here is a real review for you. I have had EB down costs as well as the Ghost Whisperer. I decided to upgrade to a higher end down coat. I was skeptical because of the price, how much better or warmer could the coat be compared to another cheaper similar coat. Well, turns out there is a difference. I absolutely love this coat. It’s amazingly warm, so comfortable, fits perfectly and I love the color. I can feel out over gear and this coat is amazing, truly happy.
This was not what I expected. I was wanting to have a severe winter weather coat. I did the research on down fill numbers and thought it would be natural for a 1000 fill coat to be the best for my needed. When I received the item I was very disappointed as this is more of a down sweater than a down coat. I also think it was miss labeled from factory. The tag was market men’s xl but at best this was a medium and when I tried to zip I noticed this was a left hand oil which normally indicated this is a women’s item. I will return the first chance I can get to an REI which is 2 hours away from me.
It’s a warm jacket that’s very light and fits well. But it has some shortfalls. Mainly the pockets. The pockets are a mess. While the zippers are high, the side hand pockets themselves are too deep. You cannot wear a harness over this jacket or it will cinch half your pocket down and trap whatever i in your pocket at the bottom under your harness. This makes this jacket no good for ice climbing or alpine adventures. Also it lacks a breast pocket or any sort of inside pocket. No place to keep an item close to your body and warm. Again, limiting alpine/ice capabilities. The pockets also lack inside insulation. If you open a pocket, prepare to dump warmth and have a cool breeze through said pockets. All in all I’d skip this jacket and stick with the Rab Electron. It’s much more suitable for outdoor adventures and the 200 fill reduction won’t make a difference when you’re not standing still.
