Amazing, carry-on compatible pack!
So far I've only used this pack for cycling and automobile trips, but when I next fly I will be using this pack. The top of the pack unzips into a smaller bag, leaving the larger backpack as carry-on compatible. There's a convenient laptop pocket on the right side, and the backpack straps are both adjustable vertically and can be stashed away. The pack is comfortable for bike commuting/cruising around town, and with the hip straps it feels quite stable. I recommend this pack to anyone who prefers to travel light (such as I do when I fly for business), but still wants to maximize the space that they do have.
Versatile travel bag
The Cotopaxi 50L Travel bag can be a great alternative to rolling luggage for travel. Pros: - The dimensions of the bag makes it a good carry on bag on most airlines. - There are slots in the back to tuck in the hip belts and the contoured shoulder strap. Once the straps are tucked in the hidden compartment, you can use the top handle, bottom handle, or the side handle to carry the bag vertically or horizontally. The shoulder straps are comfortable with the adjustable load lifter straps and Velcro attachments at the back. The pack also has a sternum strap. - The top pocket is detachable and has hidden adjustable straps that can be converted into a spacious waist bag with compartments and zippers. Once the top pocket is detached, there are hidden straps at the top of the backpack that can be used to secure a rolled blanket or sleeping bag. - One side of the backpack has a zipper that runs from top to bottom. The lined compartment that is flush to the back of the bag can be used to store a laptop or a tablet and even legal sized folders or envelopes. - It has one big side pocket to place a water bottle or an umbrella. - It has 4 loops in the front, 2 on each side where you can secure hiking poles or hooking other accessories. - Although the hip belt doesn’t have any compartments, this makes it easier to tuck it in the hidden compartment. - The color is pleasing to the eye and doesn’t have the weird block colors that is usual for Cotopaxi bags. If checked in, it would stand out from the sea of neutral colors that is usual for travel bags. - The material of the bag seems to be water-resistant. Beading of water was noted on the bag when sprayed. - Overall, the bag seems to be well-made with sturdy stitching particularly in the handles and zippers. Cons: - the main compartment has only 2 zippered areas on the inside. - the other side pocket is zippered and compact; not much space to put anything other than a thin wallet or IDs. - Although the main zippers are huge and look sturdy, I had trouble closing it at the corners. - Not sure how much it can stand in a downpour, there are no rain covers with this bag.
The nearly perfect travel bag
The short of it: If you're looking for a perfect bag for a weeklong city hopping excursion, this is it. Lots of room, flexible, easy to carry, well constructed, and actually fun. The details: There's a great combination here of the voluminous and easy-to-access main compartment paired with lots of pockets that all make sense and give lots of options. The big main volume was easy to throw in my entire daypack on a whim so that I could test this out on a 2-mile walk commute over a few days. There was lots and lots of room to spare, and the suspension system of the backpack, while not as built up as a dedicated backpacker's, was really comfortable and adjustable and perfectly tuned to getting luggage around on a long walk from a commuter station to a hotel. The pockets, outside and inside, are really fun and actually useful, making it easy to organize random things like socks or dirty clothes or documents. I'm especially smitten with the laptop compartment that's both inconspicuous and easy to find (recessed bright orange zipper) at the same time. It took me a day to notice the passport pocket, so well incorporated into the side next to a really useable carry handle. For lots of uses like for carry-on airplane luggage, I'd happily just tuck away the backpack straps (easy to do and very clean looking) and use this simple but sturdy handle. Maybe the most intriguing feature of the bag is the detachable hip/sling pack. It, too, has great pockets and the strap for it recesses really nicely. It's easy enough to zip on and off the main pack, and I could easily slip a windbreaker/raincoat within the space accessed by that zipper; or when the sling pack is detached there's a great strap for cinching down a coat to the main bag. The sling pack is a great bag in its own right, big enough for a day's excursion of snacks, drink, coat, or whatever. It also has extra pockets for organization. Taking off this extension, the main pack is an easy carry-on in an overhead compartment, leaving the detachable sling as the "personal item." The one very minor criticism I have is that when the pack + extension is lying down in order to access the main compartment, the access to the extension part of the bag has all its openings on the underside of the combination. You either have to flip the whole thing over or detach the sling to easily get to those items. But maybe that's what you'd do anyway. I just found it silly that I couldn't get to all of the compartments easily when everything was attached. I have too many backpacks and duffels already, but this is a welcome addition with a really clever design and well-made components. If you were planning a trip where you needed this kind of flexibility and easy of carrying, it's easy to recommend this over a standard backpack or duffel. It's the best of both of those.
My backpack for Europe
I opted for a backpack for Europe because I want to avoid having trouble with stairs and not taking too much wheeled suitcase. It’s a big backpack, and I’m looking forward to take it as a carry on for my trip, it’s spacious and not heavy at all. I’m 1. 61 cms tall and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable at all, the stripes help me to support it comfortably, but they feel a little bit weak compared to the rest of the backpack’s body . The best part is the small backpack that you can remove so it’s your personal object. I order it because of the color and because a friend of mine recommended me Cotopaxi. I’ll be open to test in a lot of new adventures!
THE PERFECT PACK
This pack is outstanding. The detachable top 8L portion is amazing for airline travel. Easily fits full size over the ear headphones and has a gangload of room left for other goodies. The adjustable shoulder strap height is a fantastic feature. I'd been using a 5. 11 55L for a long time and this just feels so much lighter and comfortable yet doesnt feel like I lost any space. The water bottle holder is super deep and swallows my 32oz lifestraw water bottle and the lower corner tiedown strap works great to throw a carabiner on to double secure the water bottle. The only thing I would change is have it available in sage green, but the bronze is nice also.
Worth it.
This is the best travel bag I’ve ever had. It’s super versatile and the detachable cross body bag makes so easy to get as much on a plane as possible without checking a bag. Comfortable to wear even when super full.
The perfect travel backpack
Knowing I was going to do carry on only, I’d been debating whether I wanted to travel with a suitcase or backpack. But no backpack fit everything I was looking for. Until now. The detachable “personal item,“ internal bag for shoes (or whatever you want to keep separate), and a perfect amount of storage space to carry everything you need for extended travel. Plenty of space and protection for a laptop and iPad and an easy access but secure pocket for passport and phone. The fact that I am short and have a small frame was also a problem with fit and how the weight balanced on my body. Not a problem with this pack! It can adjust to fit me and my much taller husband perfectly. Highly recommend!
Allpa 50L Adventure Travel Pack
Received my pack today! Order was delivered in less than a week! I haven't had the chance to field test it yet, but the bag seems to be made very well. The 8L zip off pack is large enough to hold my 24oz hydro flask as well as snacks and my wallet. I would say this is definitely an upgrade from the 42L travel pack. The inside layout is very similar but the adventure pack has more pockets overall that helps with organization. I also appreciate the new adjustable straps, as someone on the shorter side this helps alot in adjusting the backpack so it doesn't feel too big or ackward to carry. The hidden side pocket is a great feature, I only wish more of the pockets had the safety/anti-thief loops.
Great Bag
50 L capacity. Easy to pack. Comfortable. Was able to easily separate the two bags when combined it didn’t fit in a small overhead bin in Europe.
I haven’t figured out the
I haven’t figured out the back pack strap positioning to allow the back to sit closer to your shoulders. It feels like with the 8L top bag filled the pack becomes slightly top heavy and pulls away from your upper shoulders. The side handle feels a little small and is balanced with the top pack attached. But when you remove the top pack the bag feel unbalanced when using the side handle. Everything else looks and feels great about the pack. I do really enjoy having the option to remove the top and use as a separate bag. Very neat design.
