I just bought this to replace a respectable but aging Patagonia down jacket. I was looking for a higher neck to eliminate Drafts and the hood really came in useful immediately. This is superior on many levels: better down filling, better zips and (many) more useful pockets. I was also influenced by the colors available. The fit is great and slightly longer in the body I now feel shielded from the elements. Wore it this week to the Grand Canyon and bad weather rolled in quickly - I was perfectly well prepared.
This jacket is incredibly warm, from online searches it looks like size L has 6. 9oz fill weight which puts it higher than the down sweater (5. 3oz) and more in line with something like the Rab Electron Pro which is too technical for me. I loved this jacket but sadly had to return due to sleeve length. The pinion down jacket, size L, fits me great in the sleeves, but the Hometown seemed to be 1/2 to 3/4 inches shorter. I was not able to extend my arms without it riding up substantially. I will say that this jacket is WARM, even trying it on I could feel my body heat being retained. It broke my heart to return it but if you don't mind the sleeve length it is a home run. For reference I wear a 36" sleeve in dress shirts.
Amazing jacket. Warm as heck, durable, and cozy. My only complaint is that sometime in the last few years they changed the dimensions. The XS is now longer than it used to be, so if you’re short like I am (5’4”), the jacket now extends below your butt, making you look even shorter. I’ve taken to cinching the waist and curling it up. Otherwise a fantastic jacket.
Love everything about this jacket except the fit. Im a large in most other premium brands but a large Hometown hoody is just way too short in the sleeves, yet the Shot 7 and Environ jackets fit me perfectly in sleeve length. Sizing seems to be inconsistent with the Hometown.
This is my favorite jacket - when the temperature drops into the 20s, I only need a long sleeve thermal shirt with this and it keeps me warm for hours. Really takes away the huge need to later so much. Fits well and looks awesome. . . 10/10.
Excellent fit and quality with a multitude of pockets, an adjustable hood, and water resistance. High-quality 800 fill down provides comfort against cold without adding weight. It is a very practical, stylish and comfortable light jacket.
I grew up in the snowy mountains of NM and now live in CT, with its extended winter, snow, ice and cold. This Stio coat is the best winter coat I've worn in 30 years. Lightweight, very warm, great fit and love the hood and pockets.
Really liked this jacked. Warm, light, and not to puffy. Dog jumped on and ripped it two weeks ago. Got stolen when I was trying to get it repaired. Super bummer. But thanks for the short memories of a really solid jacket.
Loved this jacket and wanted to make it work. Warm with all the right pockets and features. But the sleeves on the XL are just too short for me. Add an inch and the jacket would be my go-to winter jacket.
My Hometown Down is my go to for on piste skiing in Upstate NY . I also wear it around town going out most of the time . The hood fits nicely over my helmet and the inside pocket will fit my small lunch .
