Handy for more than emergency use
Happy to not have needed to use this for an actual emergency but appreciate that I have this tool in the event of the unexpected. For non-emergency use, the screwdrivers and blades are handy! I’ve used both and anticipate use of the toothpick and tweezers for small emergencies like splinters. I’m happy to have this in my car at the ready! It’s a good size for all the features. Keeping it in the car for its window breaker and seatbelt cutter but using it for more.
Great quality, solid, glad I have it!
As a rescue knife I think this product serves its purpose quite well. I don’t feel like I can give an honest, proper review as I haven’t used the seatbelt cutter or glass breaker. I have only used the phillips screwdriver part and it worked well. My kids also looked at the different parts and they were able to open and lock the different tools including the knife that locks. My plan is to keep this in my family vehicle and hope I never have to use it. But it’s a great tool for everyday use like screw driver needs and other highlights of the tool.
The tool you'll probably never use
Summary: • Window cracker, glass saw, seatbelt saw, large lock blade, Phillips head screwdriver, screwdriver/crate opener/cap lifter/wire stripper, key ring, tweezers, toothpick, nylon pouch and cord • Very few to no use cases for most people • Too heavy to keep on a keychain thus possibility of being able to access tool for self rescue in a serious crash unlikely • Most likely use for EMTs and Paramedics although most already have the tools to rescue someone trapped in a car The Rescue Tool is an all-in-one tool to remove someone trapped in a car. It has a window cracker, disc saw for shatterproof glass, seatbelt cutter, plus other handy tools such as Phillips head screwdriver, crate or bottle cap opener/screwdriver/wire stripper tool, a tweezers and handy toothpick. It is a tool the average person will probably never use. In fact, the only use case I can think of is if one comes upon a burning car and quickly needs to rescue someone from within—in any other circumstance it is better to wait for rescue workers in case there is a neck injury given removing an injured person from a car could do more harm than good. I don’t see it being useful for self-rescue from a car either: at 7.4 ounces with its sheath, it is too heavy to keep on a keychain so would probably be kept in the glove compartment or console which might be difficult to access in a bad accident. For obvious reasons I did not have a chance to test all the tools given my auto-glass and seatbelts could not be sacrificed but given all the tools work well, I still don’t see it coming in handy for the average person and assuming most medical personnel dispatched to the site of a crash already have all the tools they need to rescue someone from a car so I don’t know if it would be necessary for them either. While a great tool in theory, I don’t see it as a useful addition to ones gear collection.
A bright rescue tool suitable for a car rescue
I received a free sample of the Victorinox Rescue Tool in exchange for a product review. The main function of the tool appears to focus on automotive rescues with a glass shattering tool and saw blades that can cut through safety glass and seatbelt webbing. I wasn’t able to try shattering and car windows but I did test it on some old seatbelt webbing and it sliced right through it. I plan to keep the tool in my truck in case I need to help someone in a car accident. I also used the knife on a recent yard project and the large knife and pry blades were very useful. The case and grips are high visibility yellow so it looks like a firefighter should be carrying this and may be a little bright to wear casually. The tool comes with more features than I can remember so I tucked the instruction manual into the pouch to help me remember.
A great tool for everyday use
At first glance, this knife/multitool did not appear to be very useful. However, it has now become the tool I carry every day. The rescue tool has xx tools. I use the large blade that locks the most. The flat blade screwdriver is useful (and it locks) as a can opener too. The toothpick is plastic and stores itself nicely. The Phillips screwdriver is nice but awkward to use. The seatbelt cutter and glass saw are easily opened but neither blade locks (and neither are good for cutting small branches). Both sides of the frame glow, even after minimal exposure to light. I have not used the wire stripper or tweezers. I have not used the awl/punch/reamer and I'm afraid too because it's sharp and does not lock. I don't like that all of the tools that lock, use a frame or liner lock instead of a lock back. I don't like that the glass breaker doesn't hide and is always outside of the frame but at least it doesn't poke you when it's in your pocket. Despite some design flaws, I love this tool and plan to carry it and use it for a long time.
Good for First Responders - But Could be Better
This is an interesting knife in that it is aimed at a very specific audience. But if you aren’t a first responder, I could see how this might be worthwhile to stash in your vehicle in case of emergency. It has some general purpose utility, but has some very specific tools. It is hard to know exactly how some of these tools would work in practice - I don’t have a windshield lying around to cut into, a seatbelt to slice, or a window to shatter. But, generally they look like they could do the job in an emergency. Things to like: •Feel substantial in the hand like a quality piece of kit •The blades are nice and sharp out of the box •I like the shape and the one-handed deployment of the main blade •The glow-in-the-dark handle works pretty well Things I don’t like: •I really can’t convey how much I dislike the lock release for the main blade. It’s not one handed. It’s not easy or smooth. And it can’t be done with gloves on - especially the type of gloves that a first responder might be wearing. The blade is really sharp so you have to be very careful that you’re not gonna cut yourself as you close it as your hand has to be in the way. There are better ways. It is more difficult to close with the right hand due to how the mechanism works. •Some of the really sharp tools like the windshield cutter (extremely sharp serrated blade) don’t lock at all, so can fold in on your hand if you are using it
Great little rescue tool!
This is a great little rescue tool! It contains the important tools that a rescuer needs in a small and compact package. As a first responder, I have carried this tool with me and thankfully have not needed to use it yet. Out of the box, the instruments were sharp and easy to navigate. I would recommend this rescue tool to others.
Overall decent
This tool is easy to use but i did not find every feature useful for the purpose such as the toothpick and tweezers, the seatbelt cutter and tempered glass saw did well when tested This tool is more appropriate for stashing in a vehicle or tool bag then for everyday carry or rescure operations
Packed with Power, Slightly Overpacked with Tools
I like many features of this tool and have just a couple critiques. Design True to Swiss Army standards, the Rescue Tool boasts a sturdy, ergonomic design. Its bright yellow handle is easy to spot in low-light situations, and the grip feels secure, even with gloves on. Functionality This knife packs 13 useful tools, however I did think a couple were redundant. One-handed blade: Sharp, durable, and accessible with one hand, perfect for quick cutting in emergencies. Seatbelt cutter: Efficient and sharp, designed to safely slice through seatbelts during vehicle rescues. Window breaker and disc saw: Ideal for breaking glass and cutting through shatter-resistant windows, making it a must-have for first responders. Screwdrivers, bottle opener, and more: Additional tools make this a multi-functional item, not limited to rescue situations. Usability In real-world use, the tool performs reliably. I like the seatbelt cutter and window breaker, but in all honesty, I dont know if I would be able to get these tools out if my car was sinking or a similar emergency. I think this is a great tool to keep in the car or camping kit. It is a bit heavier than standard pocket knives due to extra tools but those tools can come in handy. Verdict: You really cant go wrong with the Swiss Army Rescue Tool a must have in your camping arsenal.
Sharp, but good.
I really like this tool! Once I figured out how to close it properly, it became much easier to use. Closing it can be tricky at first, and I was a bit worried about accidentally cutting myself. However, after getting the hang of it, everything went smoothly. Some of the tools seem to look very similar, so I needed to familiarize myself with them. I have never liked the tweezers on a pocket knife, and I can say that I am still not impressed with them, but I am happy to have them included in the tool because they are better than nothing. I just wish they weren't so flimsy. The bright color is fantastic—it’s easy to spot in my backpack or center console. I also appreciate the belt cover feature. I could foresee myself keeping it on my seatbelt, in the off chance of needing to cut my seatbelt or breaking a window to escape. I guess, I hope I never need this tool, but happy to have it at a moment's notice. This tool is VERY sharp! It is pretty heavy, probably wouldn't wear it around my neck while hiking, but I would carry it with me as a defense tool. I feel more comfortable with something like this, than a small little knife. Highly recommended!
