CAUTION: Contrary to the sizing guide: TOPO shoes run half a size smaller. In my case, my regular size is 12.5W but I needed 13W to be happy with the pair. REI please stock more Wide fit shoes for TOPO shoes. These are my new favorite pair of trail running shoes to easy terrain trail running. The outsole is more profiled for light gravel and easy terrain, not as defined as in approach shoes like Solomon's Ultra 360, or toucher profile terrains where I'd instead use my Hoka Speedgoats. Would rate this a 5 if it could replace my Solomons or Speedgoats. I do still enjoy them for hills and easy trails, very comfortable and great cushioning.
My upper foot has been bothering me for about 6 months. I stopped spinning, gave up rowing and have been maintaining the best I can on an elliptical since then. My best lady and I traveled to REI in search for some other sports shoe. Very nice and informed gentleman assisted me in finding this TOPO brand, which I have never used. I have been reading about the benefits of the wider toe box. I tried on a couple of different shoes and walked around the store for a while. I wore this trail runner home and I am telling you that the difference has been unbelievable. At first I thought that I might be in the wishful thinking mode, turns out, not the case. I'm able to "toe off" again on that foot. BTW, I am a 70 year old, male. Thank you, John
I was looking for a shoe that would help relieve pain across the top of my foot. My doctor suggested I try a shoe with more rocker to reduce foot flex. I also wanted a shoe with a wide toe box similar to a pair of Altra's I have. The associate at REI suggested I try Topo's. They are very comfortable and give my toes plenty of room to spread. I'm not a runner, but I do a lot of walking and hiking and I've been pleased with the fit and stability. The shoes did not totally solve the foot pain, but they do seem to provide some improvement. Overall very happy with these shoes.
They are comfortable which garners them a second star. I bought them on 11/20/25. Both shoestrings are coming apart and the mesh is ripping after three months. I was told by the REI staff that you can "only expect these kind of shoes to last 6 months" and "just walking around in them is rougher on them than running." Take that second comment as you will. I will not buy this brand again.
I bought these shoes a month ago prior to a two week trip to Japan and I haven't stopped wearing them since. Wore and walked these shoes everyday and my feet never felt worn out after 20k+ steps. I was recommended to get these shoes as it provides necessary arch support to my feet and also provides stability for any under/over pronation. My feet are wide so the shoe itself provides space for my toes compared to the standard cone like tip of shoes. Wore Hokas one day and my feet began to hurt at the end of the day as those didn't provide support to my feet besides cushioning.
I walk a lot. Typically 3-5 miles a day and often much longer. I combine various types of calisthenics with my walks. I go through a lot of shoes, easily 6-10 pairs a year. This was my first purchase of Topo's shoes. I don't run. I walk. Overall, I think they have been the most comfortable shoes I've bought in years. One foot needed some adjustment, but it went quickly, and they are great. I find a thin sock works best. Additionally, having two pairs of the same shoes to alternate allows my feet to avoid becoming too accustomed to the wear of one, works best. I am delighted with my purchase, and I encourage you to take them for a spin. I think you will be happy you did.
This is the second pair I’ve owned. I really like the fact that the toe bed is wide, but the shoes are not made to last. Both pairs developed the same issue within a month of walking on average 8 miles per day. The inside edge along the heal wears out and then the plastic starts cutting into your heal. It’s a definite design flaw that they should be able to fix.
Breathable, durable, comfortable, and importantly (and 100% subjectively) better looking than its predecessor. One of my favorite lite gravel, "quiver killer" shoes. This is one of the best balanced shoes out there. Obviously there are better shoes for pure pavement, pure trail running etc. but 80% of the time these shoes fit the bill and exceed expectations.
These shoes came with a wide, offset toe box, a rarity these days. They felt comfortable at REI and have only gotten more so since wearing them for everyday use as well as hiking. In rocky Pennsylvania, their cushioning and stability are superior for gardening, hiking, canoeing, and light backpacking. I wear them for everything, to be honest, except longer (week or more) backpacking treks, when the pounds of food fill up what is usually empty space in my larger backpack. Then I prefer a heftier, over-the-ankle boot that prevents gravel spillover into the shoe. They are surprisingly durable, retaining their springiness and showing little marks of wear. No matter how grubby they get, a periodic run through the washer makes them look like new. My feet are not new, however, but these shoes accommodate Superfeet insoles perfectly. When I find a Topo boot, I will snap it up on the spot!
Have had these shoes for a few months but overall only used for about 10 runs. After about 4 or 5 runs I noticed a small tear in the area shown in the photo. I hadn’t run through any brush so nothing could have nicked the shoe. Each run seems to just tear it more and more. And of course REI knows Topo build quality is trash so they made sure to have a “wear and tear” policy on returns knowing that any sucker who buys these shoes is out of luck. Good job corporations. You win again.
