These shoes were comfortable out of the box, with no break-in period required. My husband and I both purchased the Moab Speed 2 GORE-TEX shoes for a trip to Alaska. Needing waterproof hikers, but not wanting to pack extra sneakers, we thought these would fill the bill and weren’t disappointed. They got us through airports, many hiking trails and even into the gym. We had a dry week in Alaska, so we didn’t get to test the water resistance, but they’re GORE-TEX, so I think they’ll be fine. Really comfortable shoe! My husband thought they felt true to size, but I feel they run 1/2 size big—nothing a thicker sock can’t remedy.
These are nice looking shoes. I had to put my own insoles in them as the arch support was not the best. I wish the toe box was bigger. I cannot speak yet to the waterproof’ness of them but as they are Gore-Tex I have no reason to believe they won’t stand up.
Bought these for a trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National payl for light, waterproof hiking needs. Very comfortable through miles of walking and hiking.
We love your awesome feedback! Thank you.
It has a cushy sole, but the rest of it is too light for hiking on rocky or unstable surfaces. During my 9-mile hike, my feet moved around too much inside the shoe, and not because it was too big. I have arthritis in my right foot, and I need more support than this shoe provides. It became too painful as my foot moved around. I’m returning them. Also, the little white part surrounding bottom lace hole is peeling away on one of the shoes already after just two wears.
Travelled to London and Edinburgh on the holidays. As a Hoka only user with plantar fascitis, this amazed me. Protected me from rain, cold and 6000 steps per day.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing your experience Joyce!
I bought these because they are vegan-friendly and the regular Moab is not. Unfortunately, even though I sized up a half size these shoes were short and tight in the toe-box and uncomfortable. I think the classic Moab is very comfortable and I wish they made it in a vegan-friendly version because I do not want to wear pig-skin.
Bought these in preparation for hiking in Iceland, and needed waterproof shoes. As one reviewer mentioned, my heel kept sliding up so toe hit the front of the shoe causing serious bruising During an eight mile hike. However I am not a hiking shoe officianado so this could be a fix with more secure tying. I’ll likely use these on lighter hikes and seap for boots next time. Pleased with the pop of color though!
I ordered these because they were the closest thing to the last pair I bought and loved until they fell apart, and unfortunately they aren't as good for my feet as the previous pair. As I was walking and hiking, I noticed that my heel kept sliding up with each step. My foot never came out, but it definitely felt like it was going to. Since I wore them outside already, I can't return them. So I will keep wearing them but not for hiking because I need to feel stable while climbing a mountain and these do not provide that for me. Usually Merrell hiking shoes and boots are the only ones I can wear reliably, so this was a little disappointing. Maybe the next pair will be better.
Great lightweight waterproof shoe that is fashionable enough to wear with anything, but also rugged enough to handle some light trails. This is definitely not a hiking boot, but delivers a lot of versatility. Feet can get hot with the Gore-tex lining, but not bad with the right socks. Wore these on and off throughout Europe for a few weeks. Held up very well and highly recommend.
These shoes are great! I bought these shoes for an extended trip to Greece and Italy and they were great for the uneven cobblestone/stone roads and sidewalks. There was no breaking in time needed, they were comfortable from the start. I did not have the heel slipping issues that many others have mentioned in their reviews. I laced the shoes all the way to the top hole which prevented the heel slippage. As for sizing, I have two pair of Merrill Moab hiking boots (one high, one low) in size 8 1/2, I have another pair of Merrill hiking shoes in size 8. I originally ordered these shoes in a size 8, but they were too small so I returned them (which was a very easy process) and got a size 8 1/2 and they fit perfectly. I can’t speak to how waterproof they are because we were fortunate on the three week trip and did not have any rain. I highly recommend these shoes.
