Very very happy with this shoe. I think altra is realizing that refreshing their shoes does not mean to drastically restyle and introduce new features no one asked for- they did this new gen right. It remains very similar to its prior model, with some modern styling added. The cushion is more firm than the past, and it is noticeable. I don’t think this is a horrible thing, as I wore them for my 12hr hospital shift and my feet were happy at the end of the day. I think this cushioning will last longer than the prior gen. Otherwise they made the laces longer- THANK YOU! last gen was too short. I don’t enjoy shoes that have a slopping heal (if that makes sense), this has that now, pay attention if you are a big heel plantar individual. Give them a try, if this doesn’t fit what you are looking for, Altra offers many other shoes. I most likely won’t run in these, I prefer Altra experience (for the 4mm drop). I love you Altra keep up the loyalty to your customers and we shall return!

Disappointed in this version
I Wear a 9 1/2 Wide. Every version of the Torin since version 5 has a slightly smaller toe box. Now version 8 has a narrower width in the arch. After 4 hours of normal walking and standing I am left with aching feet. Altra's wide last is not consistent across the models a wide is available in and not consistent to each version. I will be returning these. Can't seem to find another brand that even tries to cater to a wider foot.

New Convert

I’ve always been a loyal wide (insert other shoe company) wearer, but decided to try Altra trail shoes for a trail race a couple months ago. Loved the extra room in the toe box and the zero drop. So decided to get these road shoes and have only put 21 miles so far, but feel like this is my new favorite shoe. I love the amount of cushion (have never really been able to enjoy a max cushion shoe: I’m 5’8”, 160) and the feel on the road. Will definitely keep Altras on my feet in the foreseeable future.

Love this version of Torins

I have been wearing the Paradigms for the last several years, but I figured I would try out these Torins. They are great! A lot of cushion for long miles, but enough firmness to maintain stability. There is a rocker-like feel to them too, meaning the miles are effortless, whether walking or running.

Good not great

I really wanted to like the Torins. I have always liked the wide toe box offered by Altra. At first these fit amazing. After about 5 months of use the right side heel cup started to deteriorate causing my heel to chafe. Oddly this was not happening on the left. I explained the situation at my local REI and the graciously returned them for me. I would not normally return shoes after five months of wear but this seemed to be odd as it only happened on one side. Maybe something with my gate idk? But it made the shoe unwearable and I feel as if we are going to paying be $130-$200 for a pair of shoes nowadays that they should last anywhere from 8-12 months (depending on activity level of course)

Super Comfortable and Great for Miles!

Super comfortable, lightweight and my go to high mileage training shoes for my long road runs from 7-30 plus miles! I have run over 20,000 miles in Altra's over the last 10 years, and they just suit me great! I typically get 600-800 miles out of the Torrin's

Impressed by this iteration

Got this to rotate in with my Torin 6 and Torin 7 pairs as I train for a half marathon and the Torin 6 have enough miles to retire soon. I am really impressed with this latest model. It’s similar to the Torin 6 in that it’s roomier in the midfoot than the 7. But then the cushioning is similar to the 7 that it absorbs impact while also providing plenty of energy return. I also like that the tongue is more cushioned. I like the laces - especially that they are long enough to comfortably use the heel lock method of tying. I would and probably will buy these again.

Great shoes!

These are the best shoes I have ever owned! I bought a pair about 6 months ago and then when I saw them on sale at REI, I got another pair. There's room for my toes!! Finding a pair of shoes that really fit well and comfortably had been a problem since I was a small child. (I'm 79yo now.) They were never wide enough. I had been buying New Balance for the last 10+ years in a 4E or 6E width and they were okay, but the toe area still narrowed. Now, finally, someone designed a shoe that allowed for our toes. Thank you, Altra! My perfect shoe!

Altra shoes delivered smelling of glue

When this shoe arrived, it smelled of glue. I waited 3 weeks for the smell to dissipate before use, but the smell never went away. I returned them because I was afraid they were improperly made and would fall apart. I even reached out to Altra, but they didn't ask for a lot number to track down the problem, so I am not sure that they care, or if they have the systems in place to track where/when there is an error in manufacturing. Makes these guys the ultimate buyer beware.
