This is one of those buy-once cry-once products because I never imagined I would ever spend this kind of money on a sleeping bag. I'm 6'4" and 265 lbs with very broad shoulders (size 50 suit jacket) so I ordered the long version and it fits perfectly for a side sleeper. Most mummy bags don't work for me because they make feel like my knees are tied together, with no way to turn on my side or on my stomach. This sleeping bag is so comfortable because I can move around in it and it still keeps me nice and warm. It's handmade in the USA, the zippers don't get stuck, it's really just next level and if your budget allows, this is a sleeping bag you can use for many, many years. The long TerraLite only weights only 31 ounces, which is a big deal for backpacking. At the end of the day, it's definitely an expensive sleeping bag but I think it's worth every penny if you need a top quality, ultralight backpacking sleeping bag.
Used the Terralite on AT 2015, I had 2oz more down added for extra warmth, being a side sleeper, it was perfect, comfortable and warm enough, some coldddd nights I wore layers…unfortunately after AT, I had to toss it, I could not get the hiker stink out of it even after washing it several times…I purchased another, but added 4oz extra down this time around…love this bag !
I didn’t even buy this bag through REI but I love it so much I’m leaving a review here. This bag is a quiver killer - it is effectively a quilt that gives you the security of a real bag. It performs great for three season use, as it folds flat for hot nights and then zips up for cold nights. I’ve used this bag in the deserts of Mexico and the high Cascades with no issues. If you’re a side sleeper that runs warm and you want a nice bag, do not hesitate.
Haven't had this bag long but tested outside at home in a bivy and it got several degrees below the bags rating and I stayed warm. It has plenty of room inside and is very comfortable for me as a side sleeper. Very well constructed with no down leakage. I am pleased with my purchase.
I just unboxed my TerraLite 25, and am impressed with the quality and utility. It was not cheap, even though I used my REI member sale 20% off coupon; but the value for money is obviously there. Everything about the bag is as advertised. At this time, however, I can't vouch for its warmth as I haven't used it outside yet. While camping and backpacking, at night I prioritize warmth and comfort. Getting in the bag at home, I immediately felt comfy -- a good sign! I moved around easily in it, to both sides and all the odd positions I find myself using at night. The loft seems ample. I am a super critical consumer; and after looking hard for something to quibble about, I could wish that the adjustment for the hood and collar drawstrings were on the same side as the zipper so that I didn't have to turn around to fully tuck myself in. That shows just how far I had to reach to find a "fault"! I have no doubt that it will keep me warm in my normal 3-season use, with a well insulated pad of course. Even before using it outdoors, I won't hesitate to rely on this bag as my only nighttime cover in temperatures down to about freezing. Will try to update after I use the bag in the field.
Fantastic, versatile bag that makes a great quilt in warmer times. Roomy even when zipped up.
