Great Hybrid
I use these for short training laps at our local resort and relatively short tours when the snow conditions are challenging. They are great for that. Solid downhill retention and reliable walk mode. What they are not is light, but the extra weight is actually a plus when down hilling in frozen crud ! The reality is that there is no one binding that is ideal for all situations. That's why after trying resort skiing on my lightweight touring skis and bindings that I sprung for these bindings and had them mounted on some stiffer and heavier skis... Happy I did.
Nice multi-use binding, but wore out the toe
I purchased these with the goal of having a resort and backcountry binding and feature wise, this fit the bill. It's lite and I really enjoyed being able to transition from hike to alpine in a couple steps. Here's the rub, no pun intended, the tech fittings on my Shift Pro boots wore out the rollers on the toe within two seasons! Started to eject in the bumps and took them to the shop and they said they were just worn out. Totally disappointed that those rollers are not replaceable without buying a whole new toe piece. I've moved onto a pure tech fitting setup with another set of skis and replaced these with Marker Griphons for resort only duty. I bought these same bindings for my wife and daughter and even on those I see the wear. This seems like a design flaw IMO. Two stars since these wore out so quickly considering the cost.
Cool binding. However pre-releases way too often.
Nice binding when it works! However have had several incidents where the bindings release where they really shouldn’t. Ended up with a trip to the hospital today after my binding pre-released.
Lost
I lost my ski and binding after it slid out of bounds.
