I love everything about this shoe… except durability. Fast, planted, grippy, and comfortable all come to mind. The only fault I have with them is that both noses started to separate below the 40 mile mark. I have 4 pairs of 001s that are bulletproof so this appears to just be a 002 problem.
This is awesome!! I went up half a size as recommended. Glad I did. I usually wear an 11.5 but these are a 12 and fit great! Super fun to run in. I’ve taken them through lots of different terrain and they do well in all of it so far. Drainage isn’t great if you go through a lot of streams. The only real negative I have. Highly recommend!!
The good: spacious toebox for wide footed people like myself. Great lacing system makes for a customizable fit. Low-drop midsole for a more natural feel. Very grippy outsole for secure footing. Also, it’s a gorgeous looking shoe. Looks like a high quality, well made product. The not so good: heel counter / collar is both, a little too tall and stiff. Digs into your Achilles tendon if you don’t adjust your gait to it. Especially awkward if you’re more of a heel striker like myself. Upper material can be a little stiff and dig into your forefoot when it bends as you’re stepping forward. It’s very slightly water resistant - it’ll hold up in a drizzle - but definitely not waterproof. To be fair, it’s not marketed as such. However if they get substantially wet (like if you’re caught in a torrential downpour during a hike as I did), they do not drain well - they retain water and become waterlogged like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. And be prepared to have to air them out for a few days after that, because the Bio-Dyneema material gives off a strong wet dog stench after it gets wet. All in all it’s a good shoe that I really wanted to love, but can be hard to wear at times. So it’s slightly disappointing.
I took a chance on trying these shoes since I just discovered Norda. I have a wide forefoot so I typically wear Men’s shoes as the footwear manufacturing status quo is to build W’s products on a narrower last. I took some time learning about the sizing and reading customer reviews, I’m always between 41-42 in EU sizing and wear 8.5 in all other M’s trail shoes (Altra Superior, Nike Wildhorse) and a 9.5 in W’s Topo. runventure. The size chat for this shoe Norda 002 has 41 1/3 as the EU size for 8.5 and it fits my foot perfectly in length, width, and overall shape. I’ve only taken these on one 10k/1300ft +/- vertical trail run so far and I’m blown away by how actually good they are. They’re incredible light and the materials and overall design is noticeably better than any shoe I’ve ever run in. The platform is wide enough for my forefoot and has enough volume so the top of my toes don’t rub on anything which has been a persistent issue with other shoes. The ankle padding is the perfect firmness & articulation — the shoe feels very secure without being constricting in any part of my foot. They really crushed it with the Vibram outsole collab, I’ve used megagrip in hiking boots before but this is a comparatively elevated experience. The descent of my run was a combo of slick rock, mud, loose dirt/rocks, & compact dirt/mud (I’m in the PNW and it was partly sunny, warm at the bottom and at least 15 degrees colder at the high point, mostly wet/moist terrain), and I felt like an absolute hero flying down hill in these — they’re extremely confidence inspiring. The outsole feels supple and very grippy while also being structured enough to give solid support. The abrasion resistant rand on the upper is a nice detail and the upper material offers good protection from rocks/sticks without being too stiff. obviously can’t speak to the durability yet, but the performance gets 10/10 and these are head and shoulders above any other shoe I’ve tried (which is a LOT, most of the highest end shoes from big running brands).
Excellent --- I just wish they made a version with the upper of the 002 and lower of the 001.
My main useage for these has been dry desert trails where they have been fantastic. They have a great ground feel through the shoe without feeling pokey via the rocks. Slightly wider toebox gives just a little extra room and leads to enhanced comfort. Only reason I’m giving 4 stars is due to the price. But they are great shoes!
These run very small so get a full size larger. I’m a 11.5 and I could hardly get my feet into them. The 12.5 fits just like an 11.5.
