Fantastic lightweight minimalist travel bag.
I purchased this for an upcoming trip to Europe and Scandinavia for two weeks. It fit the sizer for Icelandair, which is notoriously small (7.8” depth). It easily held everything I needed, and was stylish and durable as well. In an age when travel bags keep rising in price, this is a great value. Highly recommended !
Excellent personal item-sized backpack
Bought two of these as gifts for my parents who travel frequently with only a personal item. They have been fantastic one-bag-travel backpacks; the suitcase-style opening makes it easier to pack than a traditional backpack and they LOVE that the bag maximizes space within the limits of most airlines’ “personal item” requirements (including frontier, which they fly frequently). They are always able to slide them easily into the little metal cages that they use to check size (though I believe the zipper expansion makes it a little too large). They’ve taken these on every kind of trip, including a two week trip to Europe where they used these as their only bag. It certainly takes some creativity in packing, but my mom says she routinely packs a week’s worth of underwear, 1-2 pants, 2-4 shirts, a few socks, a sweater, a small pair of shoes, and all her necessary toiletries as well as a small packable shoulder bag + travel essentials like chargers and wallets. If she wears a coat and bulkier clothes/shoes on the plane, it’s doable for a minimalist traveler! Minor complaints are that the outside pockets aren’t very secure, though this may be fixed on the newer versions. They also say that they wish the straps had a little more padding and/or a hip belt for longer wear, especially as they are in their 60s and often pack these very full. But if you’re looking for a personal item-sized backpack to maximize packing space, this can’t be beat! A little big for my 5’1, 110 lb mom which is to be expected, but otherwise comfortable do all who’ve tried it out.
Carry-on game changer!
We absolutely love this bag as our personal item (as long as it's not overstuffed, it fits easily under the seat) to bring our toddler's plane snacks, toys, tablet, and other travel essentials along with a smattering of items we want to keep on us instead of checking through. The water bottle holders are fantastic and fit a regular nalgene perfectly. For trips without the toddler, it makes a fantastic one-bag option for light travel. And we're finding that we go to it for non-airplane travel too (taking snacks, raincoats, umbrellas, change of clothes, and subway activities on local rainy-day excursions).
Great travel pack
Purchased as a gift for daughter for her many travels. She loves the pack, durability, utility and looks. size works perfectly as carryon or even private bag.
What a great bag! Comfortable,
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What a great bag! Comfortable, fits a decent amount with convenient straps and mesh pockets for segregation, nice laptop compartment, looks sleek. A little unsure why the shoulder straps have clips to be unattached and stored away if desired; I imagine that’s for if you need to check it and want to protect the straps, but it seems a little small for checked luggage. In any case, I’d definitely recommend this pack.
Love the new size, but
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love the new size, but I wish they added a hip belt as this is a great carryon size! The bag is light and can hold a lot but can quickly get heavy. Blue color is the best!!
Superlative pack
This pack is incredible. I routinely fly Icelandair, which is notorious for sizing bags, with a depth limit of 7.8 inches. Most airlines use a 9 inch standard, so I wanted something that would easily fit. This is nearly a perfect bag, as it’s very lightweight and comfortable, easily holding enough for me to do two week trips to Iceland and Scandinavia in winter. If you’re looking for a simple, lightweight but durable bag that can fit in the most notorious carriers overhead bins, stop looking and grab this one.
Perfect Carry On Pack
I've just used my new Osprey rucksack for the first time on a long-haul flight to Africa from the UK, including several changes at different airports. It was fabulous! Easy to access compartments (incl. separate area for my ipad), comfortable to carry and easy to pack neatly due to the suitcase style opening, I found it extremely practical to use. It looks stylish and expensive and it fit under the seat in front of me in the cabin with no problem. Someone spilt coffee over the front of the pack on my return journey. I sponged it off with a little water and washing up liquid as soon as I returned home, and the stains came off completely. The shades of blue are lovely and the material feels and looks expensive and sturdy. I used packing cubes inside, which helped maximise space and keep the pack slimline.
Great! I used it with
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great! I used it with the ultralight garment folder. I was able to pack 4 summer dresses, a pair of pants, a few shirts, a light sweater, three pairs of shoes. It still fit under my seat. It was fine to carry for short distances in the airport and to the hotel. I would have been sore carrying it for any longer. I avoided the dreaded Delta gate check for a carry on bag. This is what I bought it for. For me it’s more comfortable than the 35L Cotopaxi backpack.
good pack but security tag not removed
Haven’t used the pack yet but I’m excited. It’s a lot less heavy and less expensive than the 35L Cotopaxi travel backpack and the features are good. Removing one star because whoever packed it didn’t remove the security tag - not Osprey’s fault since REI packed and shipped the item. My local REI is rather far so it’s a hassle to take it to the store for removal and I need to use it soon so going through a return/exchange isn’t an option.
