I sent in a 10+ year old pair of MSR snowshoes to the company for repair. They were unable to fix the snowshoes, so they sent me a new pair for what it would have cost to make the repairs. I am 100% satisfied with the solution. It's great to see a company truly put the customer first.
Having owned prior versions of MSR snowshoes, going back to 1985, was very disappointed with this new model. First, the binding is too small at the toe to accommodate mukluks (which are my preferred snow hiking footwear here in northern MN). Second, the binding strap release mechanism is over-engineered and fussy, requiring that you remove gloves to operate it, and even then it isn't easy. (Not great when it's sub-zero.) The older models were so much simpler and better. You could throw them on while wearing mittens and they took any kind of footwear. Did MSR get bought out? Anyway, if you use small boots and stick to the Sierras or someplace relatively warm, they may work for you.
Great grip to these snowshoes, fit my Keen winter boots size 12 just fine, but I had two issues with them. 1. I found the bindings very fussy to deal with especially the back binding which goes over the heal. It's just tough to get it tightened in a quick easy way without fighting with it bit. 2. Given the plastic deck on these they are pretty noisy in tamped down or icier snow. I ended up returning mine because the binding setup was too problematic. Went with a pair of Tubbs Panorama which have a a heel strap which goes through lock and a Boa binding for the front.
I’ve been using the MSR Revo Explore Snowshoes and they’ve been great for winter hiking. They feel very solid and the traction is excellent, especially on icy or packed snow trails. The steel crampons bite really well when climbing or side-hilling, which gives a lot of confidence on steeper terrain. They’re also easy to put on and adjust, even with gloves, and the bindings hold your boots securely without creating pressure points. Overall they’re durable, reliable snowshoes that work really well for longer winter hikes and tougher conditions.
Reno explore snowshoes, new version, did not fit my large 14 EE shoes. New binding too small. REI support was excellent with going new snowshoes. MSR support is non-existent. No phone calls and email not answered after 40 days. What can bd done with MSR! Support was always classic,
These snowshoes shred! sidehilling is a breeze, and climbing feels super efficient, they barely slide and dig into all snow types really nicely. theyre also super light, which is great for long treks
Excellent grip on icy slopes while simultaneously good flotation in the deeper snow. Easy on and off.
Great grip, noisy plastic real was loud and sounded like plastic sliding around.
