My first pair of snowshoes so I have nothing to compare them to. They seem to work just fine short of deep light powder, where I sink more than I expected. Im not punching post holes. I'm 6-2 220, some extenders or a diet would probably help. The bindings work for the Oboz Bridgers I bought, size 12, but it's a tight fit. Four stars for something I didn't catch until I was on the trail. One is not like the other.
I’ve been using these daily for the last month or more, the bindings are great. I’m going to use them on my lightning accents just swap them out, these are not accent shoes they are explore shoes are they are worth having.
Best Snowshoes I’ve ever used. Had the binding ratchets freeze up a few times, Gotta stay out of the brook crossings.
It's a bit premature to be reviewing these snowshoes, but this is my impression after two uses at about 30 minutes each. The first use was on settled snow. Neither powder nor packed/wet snow. They worked fine, minus my dog stepping on them and tripping me. The bindings are SOOO much better than the old style with the bands that just crossed the foot (I can't believe they still sell those!). They were good on flat and traversing angled hillsides. The side cleats do an outstanding job and provide great traction! The second use was in wet heavy snow that was like walking through mashed potatoes! The snowshoes didn't disappoint. I like the cutout just in front of the binding. It makes lifting your foot easier. Possible concerns are the rubber straps. They are fine now and not as stiff as other brands, but I hope they hold up! Plus side is that MSR stand behind their products and straps/binding replacements are readily available. Unlike brands like Crescent Moon who's straps can snap without warning and require riveting to repair ($75 if done by the company! Don't ask how I know). I also have Tubbs but in shorter length and these compare favorably to them. Since it's REI with their awesome return policy, you can't really go wrong.
