Wet shoes and DRY toasty feet!

I wore these in Alaska for four days of hiking without even breaking them in first. I love this barefoot/minimalist styke and have been wearing this type of Merrel for at least 10 years; this is the first waterproof version Ive seen, and which I've really needed! They have a breathable Gortex lining so my feet stayed dry and did not sweat. The traction is excellet -I did not slip on big rocks, small cliffs, nor snow, nor mud. The sole is thicker than my regular (glove) barefoot shoes but this is a winter hiking version so I'm glad for that, the trails are a lot messier in the winter. They are true to size so ignore that warning about running big if its still on the website.

They survived 1 week of hiking in N.C.

I wanted to share my positive experience with these hiking boots. I recently wore them on a Boy Scout summer camp trip to Camp Daniel Boone in North Carolina, and I was particularly impressed with their waterproof capabilities. I accidentally slipped into a shallow part of the river, and my feet remained completely dry. These boots were comfortable right out of the box, requiring minimal, if any, break-in time. I walked nearly 20 miles over the week, and my feet felt great throughout. I purchased them on sale, likely due to the color, which does tend to show dirt more easily. However, with a soft toothbrush and soap, they cleaned up almost as good as new. I was also surprised by the durability of the tread, as it showed almost no wear, despite other reviews indicating significant wear. Overall, I highly recommend these hiking boots.

Right out the box adventure ready!

I purchased these because I was looking for a comfy, still warm, but light boot to travel to South Africa with. I went in June so it’s their approaching winter. As soon as I opened the box I loved the design and especially the air pockets. The bottom shoe design has pretty good grip. On various surfaces. Including some pretty epic rocks and boulders on Table Top Mountain. They have a wide front design to mimic your natural toe spacing, so there not bunched up. Which made for a person like me with Flinestone flat feet even more able to walk for hours and climb. Honestly it felt more like a barefoot sneaker which was perfect for me. I did not test the shoes on a rigid and rough climbing ability, but mediocre climbing they did great. Also had no issue with water getting inside, except the top part due to me not having them laced to the top. Shoe was easy to clean as well. Used a towel to wipe off. I also loved the fact I didn’t need to break them in by wearing them for a few days on and off before the trip. Like I said right out the box adventure ready!. Overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase.

Comfortable and roomy shoes

My shoes just arrived!! I was very concerned because I have such a problem in the toe area, There is plenty of room in the toe They are so cute and stylish and comfortable really really comfortable. I definitely recommend this shoe. This is definitely gonna be my spring shoe. I’ve had other shoes and boots by this company and they’re just as good very comfortable. I’m thinking of getting them in black. Maybe they’ll go on sale. Also, I would go a half a size up

Love the look, BUT!

I bought these a year and a half ago to hike through Patagonia, both the Chilean and Argentine parts. I loved the idea of a barefoot style hiking boot and the look was fresh! Gotta say though, worst hiking boots I've ever owned. Pros: solid sole; hiked over a bunch of jagged rocks and didn't feel any pokes or pressure. Also, great traction. Cons: the sole is so solid that it is absolutely rigid. There is nothing "barefoot" about a sole that barely bends. For a barefoot style shoe, the toe box is still very narrow, and I have narrow feet to begin with. Further, the toe box has very little height, leaving your toes feeling super crammed even with the thinnest socks. As noted, they run very small. I ordered a 1/2 size up and definitely needed a full size up. Lastly, the toe piece separates from the suede with even the smallest kick or ding on a root or rock. 2 hikes into using these and both toe areas were completely mangled. Overall, wouldn't recommend. You can find barefoot style hiking boots that are light-years better than these in terms of fit, feel, and durability.

Love the look, BUT!

I bought the mid height waterproof boots a year and a half ago for a 2 week hiking trip through Patagonia, both the Chilean and Argentine parts. I loved the idea of a barefoot-style hiking boot and the look was fresh! Gotta say though, these are the worst hiking boots I've ever owned. Pros: solid sole; I have hiked over a bunch of jagged, sharp rocks and didn't feel any pokes or pressure. Also, contrary to other reviewers, I felt that the sole had great traction in wet conditions. Cons: the sole is so solid that it's absolutely rigid. And it never broke in. There is nothing "barefoot" about a sole that barely bends. For a barefoot style shoe, the toe box is still very narrow, and I have narrow feet to begin with. Further, don't let the pictures fool you. The toe box has very little height to it, leaving your toes feeling crammed with even the thinnest socks. As noted, they run quite small. I ordered a 1/2 size up as suggested and apparently needed a full size up. Love, love, love these!!!

These are awesome!!!! I took these as my walking/hiking/waterproof shoes for my recent Norway trip. Not only were they comfortable from day one (as others have stated), they provided good support and good traction. They also kept my feet dry during all the rainy hikes/walks. I have always loved my Merrill jungle mocs and these feel a bit the same. I will say they feel a bit wide in the foot area, but the high top tie area kept my foot stable on all the rocky paths in Norway. I also liked that the tread went a bit up the sides all around for excellent traction. Last bonus: they are very light weight.

What a gem!

Bought this boots for a 14 day trip to Ireland. It was so comfortable it didn’t required breaking in. Love the boots and you recommend this to anyone. I ordered a suze according the online recommendation but had to return it for a bigger size.
