Bought this for spring/summer/fall wet weather shell, so far so good...lightweight, doesn't make much noise, A++ zippers, and just all around well built. I'd definitely buy it again, so far...had it for a month so far, doesn't hold TOO much heat, and has big ole pit zips. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is for 2 nitpicky things...The logo and wooly mammoth are like an iron on rubber patch and will surely rub off, and there's not one interior pocket. I must've read a review for a newer model or something, I thought it had one or two. Either way, for the discounted price I got this for, I'd definitely buy it again.
Shell works well for skiing and mountaineering. This jacket fits well with a harness and is reliably wind resistant. The weight to preformance ratio of this jacket is terrific. Waterproofing doesn't hold up great after a long period >48 hours of rain but I wouldn't really expect it to. It's hood fits well with a climbing helmet and pockets are in a good place to facilitate storage with a backpack/harness on. I am very happy with this shell for summer, fall, spring and warmer winter days. It works great.
I got this shell to use for technical mountaineering and skiing and so far it has worked exactly as intended. This jacket fits well with a harness and is incredibly wind resistant. I used it in around 35 degrees with strong winds on Rainier and was more than warm enough with a thin puffy underneath. It's hood fits well with a climbing helmet and pockets are in a good place to facilitate storage with a backpack/harness on. Overall I am very happy and excited to see how it continues to preform.
This shell is amazing! It's become my everyday-shell due to its light weight and effectiveness at keeping wetness out. Rain or snow, this jacket has performed above expectations. It has all the features that I was looking for- pit zips to stay cool, lightweight, breathable, adjustable hood, and a two-way zipper. I wore this over an Amazon basics insulated puffy on a 16 mile winter hike up Mt.Marcy and never worried as the snow fell whether I'd end up wet or damp. Highly recommend!!!!
This jacket does exactly what it sets out to do- keep the weather- wind & water- out. I used this jacket for summer glacier objectives- Mt Rainier & Mt Baker- and it did a great job managing weather. It didn't trap too much moisture inside, so the "breathability" was good. This is a great final layer for winter sports like skiing or if you need to block out the elements. The medium was a bit big for me (5'8"), but I wanted it a bit larger since it was going over other layers
Absolute lovely material that does its job. I originally bought it for rock climbing adventures, but it's great for casual and city wear. I live in London so this is perfect for the unforcastable rain. Packs light in any pack that I have. Recommend for both the expert and beginner. Note there is nothing terribly warm about it. So you'll need layers under if the temps drop. Nicely there are zippers under the armpits to let airflow when you don't have the time to take it off.
I have many jackets and bought this as my in-bounds ski shell. Purchased in L (6'0", 175lbs) and the cut is spot on. Plenty of length in the arms and across the shoulders. May sound like a minor detail, but the design of the hood and neck are absolutely perfect. With the hood down and the neck zipped my chin is covered which prevents ice from forming on my facial hair on powder days... no gaiter needed (never wear one anyway). Excellent materials and high vis color.
The jacket is very durable, lightweight and comfy. Good for breezy and rainy days. The jacket is best when you wear layers under it. The pit zips are great when you still have to wear the jacket but cool down after a hike. I wish I got a size smaller. I got a M (I’m 5’7) the jacket covers everything, just wished it would be a bit tighter and more over my hips instead of covering it. It restricts my movement when I would do a high knee movement.
This shell is amazing. But be warned it fits true to size. If you're at the upper half of the size range and plan to layer with more than 1/2" of cloths under it you should size up. I'm on the upper end of the medium size and can only fit a base layer and thin fleece under my medium, no change to fit any sort of down jacket. But as it is thats enough warmth to be comfortable being active down to 20°F.
I use this jacket mostly for mountaineering or wet hikes and it holds up great. It's a warm, but not too warm, outer layer that holds up great against wind and moisture. Then pockets are well placed and the quality of the fabric is great. It does seem a little big for a medium, but when layered, it fits great.
