Bring on Iceland!
As a South Florida resident for the past 48 years, I don't find myself needing a heavy winter coat often. But this year, we were traveling to NY in early February, so my layered sweaters and sweatshirts were not going to cut it. I had an old (15 years,...) winter ski jacket, that must have weighed 20 pounds, not ideal for travel. I asked around and was told Northface is the way to go for a lightweight winter jacket, for extreme temps. I went online, looked at the various styles and colors, and went with the Terra Peak Hoodie. I could not believe how light it was, and could not understand how this could keep me warm. Well, I soon found out what a great purchase I had made. Temperatures were in the 20's with strong winds, and I was toasty as can be. The hood is perfect for keeping the wind out and I quickly realized that I did not need to wear various layers underneath, becasue the jacket kept me warm. Additionally, it is so light and compact for travel, I was able to stick it in my carry-on bag with no problem. We are going to Iceland later in the year, and I am ready!
Great jacket!
True to size, very comfortable, great jacket, wore it well at a hockey game in Maine.
Really good insulator but could benefit from a small upgrade
I've been using this puffy jacket as an insulator under my gortex shell. It is a very warm jacket, comfortable allows for mobility while skiing. I found that the fit is a bit loose which is ok for adding additional layers underneath if necessary but I think the jacket could be improved with one addition. That is a method to synch the bottom of the coat to keep cool air from coming up from underneath. Otherwise, this jacket is a 5 out of 5. I would still recommend it if you are looking for a solid insulator for cold weather.
Best jacket for winter
This jacket is exactly what I needed for Colorado's winter. Keeps me very warm without any layering though with layering warmth will obviously be increased. I would totally recommend if you are into snow sports or like being toasty during winter. Being able to pack this jacket up is another plus for me so it's always convenient to either leave in the drawer when stowed or have it hung up on the coat rack. This is the jacket I will reach for when the temps drop around the 30s.
Highly recommend!
As someone in the ski industry, finding the right pieces for my kits are absolutely essential. This puffy is great because it packs down really nicely and is light, and is also the perfect layer under my shell. Not only that, but it's a great fashion piece and I wear it to walk around town. Would highly recommend for North Face enthusiasts looking to add a mid layer or functional streetwear jacket!
Overall Nice Coat
First of all I really want to like this coat. The color options are great and the feel is amazing. The Quantam Pertex material with Thermoball insulation is a great pairing and feels incredibly comfortable. However that being said I already own a Thermoball coat which is slim fit as well as a Breithorn down coat, also slim fit which make them both great options for midlayers. This coat is standard fit which makes it baggy and a little bulky under my shell. Additionally the hood is designed for use with a helmet, however I probably wouldn't use this coat as a standalone when doing cold weather sports so it's too big without having any way to adjust it. Overall this really does seem like a nice coat if you don't want to spend the extra money to buy a Breithorn, however I just couldn't quite find the right use for it with the other TNF products offerings that I already have and really love.
Quality warmth and functionality in a superlight puffy!
Needed a nice warm, light and functional puffy in my mountain wardrobe - boy did I make the right choice. I have access to all the big brands being a professional ski coach and mountain athlete but boy I'm glad I went with the Terra Peak! Very warm, stretchy, soft, looks great and when the jacket is fully zipped, the collar and hood sit perfectly and traps the warmth. Genius. It doesn't suffocate you when active, breathes well. I had it on with some light drizzle and the shizzle was just sheeting right off - at least for now while it's new so hopefully it lasts for a while like that. Only wished it had a brushed interior on the pockets (like the collar) and a cinch cord on the bottom for a little extra protection. I am 5'6 160lb, athletic and the small fits perfect allowing for a great mid-layer or day to day wear. I would strongly encourage giving this jacket a try if you're torn between the Nano, Pinion Hoody and other similar jackets.
Stay warm this winter
Great jacket. I wear this as everyday warm winter jacket. Good size pockets and warm hood. Warm and spacious. Bought XL and fit is a little big but that's great for bulky layers underneath. Color is also great. Nice deep red outside and bright red inside.
Really bad sizing on this jacket!
NF sizing in mens is so off! Not like the past. The xl in this coat was so tight in the chest I couldn't breathe, and the XXL was soo huge and frumpy! Really frustrating! The cut on this piece is terrible I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
Very soft, great color, warm - great design
Daily jacket for living in Park City, Utah. The fabric is very soft and the fit is comfortable. The hood is a good size for everyday needs. I have not checked to see if it would fit under a helmet, but I am not using the jacket for skiing.
