I had this in backpack form and both strap broke with only 3 outfits, a pair of shoes, and a toiletry bag (<10 lbs) the first time I used it. Highly disappointed, wouldn’t recommend.
I bought this a few months ago looking to replace my gym duffle bag with something versatile enough to be a weekend bag and possibly a personal carry on for flights. The 42 L is too large for a flight personal item but a perfect carry on. I love this bag it has the ability to create separate compartments and a place to store shoes separately from clothing. Its take some effort size 11 shoes but can be done. The bag is made of good quality and overall happy with the purchase and I researched other top of the line bags . The backpack function is okay but not ideal. I don’t like that the duffle bag straps are exposed when wearing as a backpack.
This is a great bag for a few days of travel. Love that it has 2 end pockets for a pair of shoes or small things. The top pocket which houses the backpack straps can also be used. Love the internal divider. The fabric is easy care. I got the soapstone color and it's pretty. highly recommend. will be using it for carry on now too instead of my tempest back pack.
Great bag for a few days of traveling. I mostly travel for work and this is great as I can put my 3 pairs of scrubs on the one side, and casual clothes on the other due to divider. Love that it has outside pockets for slippers or those small items and room for books and/or laptop on the top. While it doesn't have a shoulder strap I just use one of the backpack straps or the regular handles. I got the stone color and love it. Not the usual brown, blue or black. (wish they did have purple though :). Fabric is easy to clean. Also love the outside straps and dual zipper closing.
I bought the 32L version of this for work to carry lunch, office items, and sometimes change of clothes. I got a lot of compliments for it. Bought it twice because my wife liked it. But I needed a bag that could also hold a hygiene kit and towel if I needed to shower at work. The 42L can’t hold much more than the 32L. Worse off, the handy side pocket for bottles was deleted on the 42. I have a personal 13 inch laptop and a 15 inch work laptop. Despite North Face’s claim, the 15 inch laptop doesn’t fit. (It didn’t fit in the 32L bag either.
Bought this bag a month ago. It has great organizational compartments. However pertaining to the backpack straps, it is subpar. The straps are permanently attached by sewing, and on the first trip, they ripped at the seam. The straps on the base camp model are much sturdier.
This duffel was perfect for a 10-day trip to Ireland in July. It fit in the carry on airline compartment, was waterproof for vehicle-to-hotel transfers, and I was able to bring an extra pair of shoes and enough pants/socks for wet weather hiking and touring. I used Gonex packing cubes to keep duffel contents organized. It was recommended to me by an experienced international traveler.
Too small. The dimensions listed are a lot larger than the square inches listed. The bag is a lot smaller than the dimensions listed. The square inches and Liters are correct. But overall, a lot smaller than expected. Returned the bag.
bag is way too small and REI sucks at returns, charging 7.99 to send back. most stores will waive the return fee when you are at least exchanging. they were extra Scrooge charging for an exchange. 0/10 stars for sad customer service.
