The pictures do not do this luggage justice
I am a big fan of Northface luggage. I would never buy anything else. I bought this online and was expecting a basic carry-on like my last one. The pictures did not show any of the details of the bag and do not give an accurate description of this awesome bag! This is a big improvement from their prior carry-ons. It has a nice sleeve for the laptop. A nice cushion pocket for your wallet and valuables. It has extra pockets inside the case. Very roomy on the inside as compared to other carry-ons. The case is very well built, the wheels are top-notch, the handle is nice and long and durable. I give this a 10 star!
Fantastic luggage, a couple of drawbacks
This luggage was my carry on for my travel to Europe and served me wheel. For the price its hard to beat! Exterior Size I had no issues having this onboard or getting it checked. However, I do worry on smaller budget airlines that it could be a problem. This is why I went with the all black option, especially the logo - since it appears smaller at first size. Interior Multiple pockets/areas to stuff in items. In addition to the main compartment area, there is also a mesh 'pouch' on the cover that opens up and is perfect for small items or clothing. Additional on the exterior of the cover there is a somewhat padded pocket, it can be ideal for a laptop but I personally would not put a laptop there- in my backpack it goes! It served well to add things like the matador pocket 'blanket', the peak design packable tote and some other items, can also pack a light sweater or thing jacket in there. Inside the main compartment there is also a mesh net that also serves as a dual purpose to restrain/compact clothing. There is also a smaller mesh pocket inside this pocket at the top with a zipper that held my snacks. At the top of the luggage there is a soft fleece/microfiber lined pocket big enough for the largest iPhone with more room to spare- would be ideal for a glasses case, wallet and a phone. Also has a lanyard for your keys, passport or other items. I did not use this as I carry all of these things in a travel sling. Downside of the interior is that the handles are inside the compartment leaving some dead space. Underneath you could fit some thin books or journals, or small items to try and utilize all the space- but I find that it was poorly engineering. I would not mind if the handle poles were flush with the exterior giving you more interior space. Handles The handles are pretty strong and don't appear that they will give out any time soon. The play in the handles is more than I would appreciate, this is another area where it could be improved to warrant 5 stars. Wheels are great, I love the fact that they seem to be easily replaceable in case of damage with a simple hex key. The padded handles on all sides are extremely comfortable and served me well carrying this up stairs. The wheels had no issue being wheeled on incredibly poor terrain and cobblestone roads in old towns of Bulgaria. Additionally I could wheel without issue in the aisles of both an A320, A380 and a B747. Summary Pros -Lots of organization -Weather/rainproof exterior -Padded pockets and handles -Tough handle -Fantastic wheels Cons -Handle waste lots of space -Heavy - weight of 3.6kg (most airlines allow up to 8kg for carryon before requiring you to check in) -Adding a backpack to the handles can make it a little unstable and cause it to tip over, but if you're on level ground it should be fine) My only other option for a carry on would be the new peak design carry on roller pro but that's almost twice the price. (I paid $240 for this with the 20% off REI coupons)
Great quality & durability; slightly less capacity
I had the older version of this bag from 2016 and loved it! When it blew a wheel and the frame cracked, NorthFace awesomely gave me a gift card so I used it for this bag. It has a little less capacity and is now split into two main compartments (top and bottom) vs one, but it has some nice new features: cushioned sleeve on top for a laptop; four handles for easy grab/load; more flexible zippers, etc. It has the same wheels so we'll see how these hold up during my extensive travels to come. I'll need to pack a bit lighter than with the old bag (not a bad thing per se) so the only reason I did not give it 5 stars.
The Best Luggage Out There!
This is the 5th North Face Luggage I've purchased since 2009. I have (2) 36 5lbs Rolling Duffel Bags that I've had since 2009. And another smaller Rolling Thunder 21 and another Base Camp Rolling Thunder 22. These Rolling Thunder 22 bags are simply so spacious and compact at the same time! It's the reason I bought 2! Thank You again at North Face for the best luggage out there! You folks ROCK!!!
Functional, attractive, & Durable
I used this bag for my travel to Ecuador, and all along inside the country. Being in a rainy and cold, mountainous region with a bunch of nature visits, this bag withstood all. As a bonus, I got this bag checked both ways, and it has zero damage or scuff marks. Protected all my valuables and kept them dry.
Basecamp Carryon
Like the size, but the retractable handle jammed/broke on just my second trip. NF gave a credit, which did not cover the entire cost to return and reorder. Not the greatest experience, but hope to have better luck with the replacement.
The BEST weekend bag!
Just got this bag for a weekend trip to NYC. It held everything I needed, even in the cold winter months. It's easy to roll and the extending handle moves smoothly. The black color is real slick, too! Love it!
I would buy this again for sure. Quality unmatched
Love my new base camp luggage. The quality is super, down to the stitching, multiple compartments and overall classy look. Traveling with style for sure. Thank you NorthFace.
Would purchase again
First trip went great, there is alot of side pockets. Size is good for a 3-4 day trip, did wish there was space for an extra pair of shoes.
Love, North face equipment
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great quality of luggage, I took this on my first work trip only to realize I couldn't go bigger on the next size
