The North Face  Retro Denali Jacket - Men's

I really wanted to keep this jacket, but I just couldn’t get past the odd sizing. For reference, I’m 6’3” and 190 lbs. The sleeves are nice and long, which is great for someone my height, but the torso is disproportionately short. The jacket barely reached the top of my pants. It’s a strange combination of long sleeves and a short torso that I imagine would make finding a good fit difficult for a lot of people. TNF would be better off offering a standard fit with proportional sleeve and torso lengths, along with a tall version that adds length to both. It’s a shame because, aside from the sizing, the jacket is very well made, warm, and exactly what I was looking for.

I have had several of these over the years, and was excited to get the retro to have pit zips again. HUGE disappointment to find its not made with the Polartec fleece like the older ones. First wash, used the tech wash, and fleece particles everywhere. On everything else. And it looks like it's older than my old one that's over 5 years old. And I'm still not done getting all the loose fleece off of the new one and all my old ones I washed together. I seriously expect more from The North Face and something that cost over $200. I just wanted the pit zips back for use with the rain jacket it zips into. What a let down.

Finally. After ill-thought departures into garishly bright and citified color schemes, this is a return to an actual earth tone (moss) AND the return of the traditional pit zips. This jacket is a classic and staple of my four-season backcountry adventures for more than 25 years now. Each of my first two lasted more than ten years, but the changes a few years back were not improvements, and the last variation I got, sans pit zips and with a more constricted fit, has never felt like the original, which was a workhorse of simple perfection. Nor did any of the colors belong in the woods. This is a return to a classic. Retro? No. The longtime standard, which I am so heartened and relieved to see TNF had the wisdom to bring back.

I bought my first North Face Denali Jacket 40 years ago and wore it on hundreds of climbs including the summit of Denali and the high points of numerous countries. It is finally showing signs of wear so I bought this second one. If this one lasts 40 years, I won't have to retire it until I'm 110!

I’ve worn this in doors in cold rooms and outdoors in temperatures down to ~40 F (usually under a hard shell jacket). Plenty of pockets. I use the cinch cord to tighten the fit around the waist. The fit is so relaxed that the size Small I got would probably fit someone who ordinarily takes a Medium; this is the only reason I gave the Retro Denali 4 stars instead of 5 (I like the style and performance so am keeping it).

I had an original many years ago and have regretted giving it away. Bought a new version of the Denali Not hooded and it was okay but not as good as the original. No pit zips and doesn’t feel as warm. Still have the original hooded version which I’ve kept and will continue to do so. This retro version is a good substitute for my old non hooded version.

Very warm, comfortable, cozy. Little pricey but definitely feels like you get what you pay for. All the pockets, armpit zippers, adjustable waist are great for quality of life

This is a great jacket. Fits will although a little loose. Very comfortable. Warm but not windproof. Perfect for anyone who likes a retro look.

I’m a tall guy and it’s a tiny bit short on me for my liking, but it’s comfortable and warm and I’m not afraid to abuse it. Good buy.

Nice and cozy warm, love the big pockets and how light it is. Always wanted one, glad I got one, great medium jacket.
