Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Amazingly warm jacket!
The jacket is amazing. The quality of the material is top notch and the feathers inside are evenly distributed. Even after packing it, which it packs very small, it fluffs back to its original shape. I would say the jacket is meant for 25 to 35 deg. When you put it on you instantly feel the warmth. I spent one hour in windy 32 deg F. weather with just a t-shirt under the jacket and I was pleasantly comfortable. The arms have elastic around the wrist which keeps warmth in and wind out. Also there is a draw string around the waists. My only caution with the jacket is that it runs a bit on the larger size. I’m 5’ 10” (160 lb) and normally I get a medium so I can fit layers under jackets (north west central winters). This medium is larger than I had expected….wish I got the small size. Overall amazing jacket for everyday use or day hikes.
Down Jacket fit for the Maine winter
Living in Maine a warm comfortable jacket is important. The light weight but durable REI Magma 850 fits the bill. It is very warm as is, but the fit allows for mid layers and plenty of movement. The jacket is long and stays in place even when working outside. The stow pocket is great if you want to have the jacket at the ready. All the zippers are easy to operate with tabs large enough to handle with gloves.
Lightweight and extremely warm
This jacket offers all you could want from an outer layer down jacket in a very lightweight and packable package. The 850 down in this jacket is extremely warm, while the fabric is lightweight and pretty windproof. It feels similar (if not identical) to the type used on REI’s line of Magma sleeping bags. I often wore this jacket on top of just a t-shirt around in 42-degree Fall morning walks and I was basically sweating. All the pockets have zippers, which is always nice to secure items, but is especially useful since the fit of this jacket is a little more boxy, making the jacket sway more with movement. The cinches on the waist help to close off some of the gaps against the body caused by its looser fit. Overall, I think this jacket is a good option relative to more expensive options from brands like Arcteryx and Patagonia.
Very good down jacket!
This coat is really quite solid. I’ve had it for several weeks, and it’s accompanied me on a trip to New York City - it kept me warm on a rainy walk through Central Park as well as sub-freezing touring of the sights! After coming home, it kept me perfectly comfortable while the kids sledded for hours in a rare Southeastern snowfall. I even got a little warm on a 3 mile hike through the snow. Pros: Water-resistant, warm, lightweight, packs down small. Cons: Not really a con, but the sizing runs a little big. In a coat like this, I prefer sizing to run big than small for layering, but something to be aware of. Overall, this coat is very much worth its cost. If you’re in the market for a packable, warm jacket for sub-freezing temperatures, this is definitely one to consider!
Not much better than a quality down jacket
I have used this jacket on hikes, shoveling snow, and while sledding. Pros: it is very warm (as one would expect for an 850 down jacket), it is incredibly light (when I weighed it, post hike, it came in at just under 13 ounces), and very high quality stitching / fabric (I have worn it in cold wind, rain, and wet snow and the seams never failed... If you've ever worn wet down you know to fear moisture). Con: probably runs a little large, which ultimately may be a pro if you are planning on going out in layers.
Comfy warm jacket
This jacket is really very nice. It is warm and packs down pretty small if you need to throw it in a bag or are on a hike and get too warm. I usually wear a XXL but got the XL in this jacket and it fits really well. It is comfortable and I would recommend it.
Great jacket, warm, water resistant
I really like this jacket. First things first, I've been wearing this at night while using the fire hose to help with getting our towns outdoor ice rink ready for the hockey team. Temps have been between 5-30 degrees F, and there's been spraying water. This jacket has kept me warm and dry, the spray that hits the jacket has beaded off and hasn't seemed to have made the jacket material wet at all. In addition to these conditions we've gotten a fair amount of snow, and wearing the jacket while clearing the driveway has not caused any issues either. I like that the jacket is warm, it feels light, I also think it looks really nice. One thing that I could see for improvement, I need an XL, the chest and arms fit really well but I think the cut of the jacket is to accommodate more of a belly. When I wear it there is lots of extra material there. It just makes it look a little puffy. There are nice bungee drawstrings around the bottom so I can keep it tighter against my waist and prevent cold air blowing up. I would definitely recommend this jacket to anyone looking for something for cold weather, and I'm glad I'll have it to wear this winter.
Good jacket for cold, not great for wet.
It is definitely warm, keeps the wind out, and is very comfortable. Fairly waterproof except in downpours where the elbows and arms get soaked through. Overall a good winter jacket, but it’s a bit much for fall.
Back to the Drawing Board Please!
Strange design decisions undermine an otherwise good jacket. Almost everything is good about this jacket, except the bizarre front pocket area, where a large bit of down sits and is liable to migrate downwards. No baffles in this area. Further, the sleeves are cut pretty big, so they look like huge tubes on your arms. Finally, the cuffs are made of the worst elastic ever, I mean, they offer no wind protection at all.
Size M
I mainly want to clear up the sizing issue for this jacket. Im 5'8", 155. I wear a medium everything. My goal for this jacket was to be able to wear a midweight hoodie underneath for high 20°s to 40°. For me the medium is perfect for that. The small was way too tight w sweatshirt, and would only comfortably fit w a tshirt. Buy it on sale, bc im not sure its worth full price.
