Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Solid jacket that punches above its weight

This is a really nice jacket that punches above its weight. The materials, features, and warmth are high quality and function well in the outdoors, with a style that easily fits everyday life in the city where I live. My only critique is that it feels slightly oversized with a little extra room in the shoulders and body, but it’s not too much and there’s plenty of room for layering. I’ve owned many mid-weight puffy coats over the years, but I’ve been looking for one like this that’s a bit warmer than average for colder trips, but not as bulky as a full winter coat. There are a number of features that really stand out about this jacket. First, it’s very lightweight (12.3oz on my scale, men’s M). The fabrics have a nice feel in the hand, the face fabric is light and soft but doesn’t feel fragile like an ultralight layer. The hood has a better than average fit for me, with enough room to fit over a winter hat and a good cinch cord that goes over the forehead. There’s also a draft collar behind the neck, which is a solid feature for when the hood is down (which is most of the time, honestly). The two main pockets are sized well and fit gloved hands, and the one chest pocket is accessed from the outside but I noticed it’s under the insulation, which should help keep a phone warm in cold weather. Lastly, I look for gear that I can wear all the time and won’t just live in a closet in between trips. The colors are muted and fit my style well, and I’ll wear this regularly in daily life. Overall, this is a really strong addition to my outdoor gear wardrobe: it’s warm and light, with high quality features that stand out from other puffies. This is my new primary layering piece on cold weather hikes in the White Mountains or for hanging out while car camping. It’s not a stand-alone winter coat, but that’s not its role. I see many use cases and see it as an excellent complement to other cold weather options. Highly recommended.

Love this jacket!

Love this down hoodie! It is warmth without weight - keeps me really toasty but is so lightweight. The two-tone color scheme with the olive green and gold is also really sharp and stylish, making it really versatile for use in town or on the trail. Some extra features I like: a well-hidden zippered chest pocket, zippered hand pockets (important to keep contents from falling out) and drawstring toggles to cinch in the bottom hem if needed. And of course, the hood! I am 5’9” and 185-190 and a large fits me perfectly, with room for a sweater if needed.

Warm and Comfy

Comfy, warm, and plenty of room for a sweatshirt or additional layer underneath. Colors are muted but seems appropriate for the outdoors. Lots of roomy pockets. Would be nice if the hood was removable or could be zipped into a pocket. A little baggy around the waist but was comfortable to move around in

Down jacket for fall camping in high elevations.

Warm comfortable jacket because of the heavier down. While some still think a little light, it is used for staying in mountains while weather transitions to the cooler fall days/nights. It has been perfect for what it was intended and more thank adequate for insulation. The jacket can be compressed to take up smaller room when putting in a backpack for a hike, it’s also quiet when moving, not making too much noise like stiffer heavy jackets. A hood was a must in my selection and it helps to keep my head warm. I highly recommend this product, if you don’t need waterproof.

Solid choice for dry, cool weather

As a hyper-packable warm layer for dry weather or with a shell, this is hard to beat. I have a couple like it and this one compares favorably at a considerably lower price. The material is like other REI down layers, super lightweight nylon, so you'll want to stay out of the brush wearing this. I lost a couple feathers while wearing it camping, but nothing significant and none poking through, which you sometimes get with cheaper or more coarse weaves. Plenty warm, I haven't been able to venture anywhere below freezing with it just yet but it definitely was fine in the 40-50 F I was in. Got caught in a shower and it didn't wet out in a hurry, and the material dries fast. It's definitely packable into its pocket (you turn the left one inside-out first) but I found it was more practical to just roll it up into its own hood and tighten the cord, which cuts down on the lofting time when you want to wear it. The fit is generous, with a medium fitting like larges that I have. That said, I'm 6', 200 lbs or thereabouts and the medium was perfect for me, but if you're unsure I'd go try one on first. Especially if you need this to fit under a shell (which you'll definitely want if it's wet or windy). Only thing I'd ask for here would be an internal drop pocket, even a mesh one. The waist cord toggles are a little bulky too but as an outer layer you're unlikely to notice that.

Solid All-Around

This jacket has a lot of useful features: the adjustable hood feels great, the chest and hand pockets are a good size, and the cinch on the waistband helps to keep in warmth. All of the zippers feel smooth and durable. This jacket is lightweight but still feels durable thanks to the ripstop nylon shell, which is a huge plus for me; I can be rough on my gear at times, and I have no doubt this jacket will hold up well for some time to come. The compressibility is another plus; this jacket can be packed down into its left hand pocket, which is a big help if you plan on taking this with you when backpacking or traveling. I would characterize the fit as being slightly on the looser side; I am fairly large, at 6’5” 250lbs, and the XL fits me with plenty of room for layering underneath. There is also plenty of room in the shoulders and elbows which allows for good mobility. I’ve worn this jacket on its own on some chilly mornings while backpacking/camping in the PNW this September and it’s kept me comfortable. This jacket also features an inner draft collar and a wind flap behind the main zipper which have both been great for windy days. Overall, this is a quality jacket that I would recommend to others.

Warm and well made

I’m not a huge fan of the two colors together. I would have preferred one or the other instead. This is a well made down jacket with 850 fill that’ll keep you nice and warm. I received this right before I went off to Mt. Hood for a long weekend, which was perfect because it got pretty cold at night! This jacket kept me plenty warm. There are elastic bands at the bottom that will cinch up the jacket to help keep you warmer. This came in handy when the wind started and effectively kept it from coming up inside the jacket. There’s elastic around the wrists, which aren’t tight enough to keep cold air from coming in. I wish the pockets had insulation on the inside as well because my hands got cold even while in the pockets. It’s only insulated on the outside with a very thin piece of fabric on the inside. I had no issues with the zippers getting caught, which I’ve had in the past with other down jackets. If you’re in the market for a new down jacket, give this one a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Really nice down jacket!

I already have the arcteryx cerium hoodie (850 down) and it has served me really well for the past few years and especially well when I ride my z400 during the winter in NY. I just need that and my leather jacket and I am good down to about 30F, maybe lower. This REI 850 down is just as good and I will say even better in fit and weight. It is not as light as the cerium but I feel like the rei has more down maybe? who knows but I paid 124 for this and 260 for the cerium and currently I am always grabbing the rei down (time will tell which lasts longer)! My daughter also got the womens version so we will rock as twinsies! I really like this jacket!

Great coat, but no match for the beloved sweater

We all know why you're here: bc this is cheaper than the much beloved leading brand "sweater," yet looks like the same thing. I (woman) personally fell in love with my brother's said planet-friendly brand "sweater", stole it, and then looked for an alternative replacement when I realized it was so ker-ching. Here's the deal: this is close. Really close. I struggled to find a down jacket with range of motion in the elbows and a lightweight, non-bulky feel like the sweater—this fits the bill. I actually love the colors so much better than Yvonne's barfy choices. HOWEVER, here's what you pay for: this is so much more staticky. The zipper whacks you under the chin instead of over the mouth. You can see the stuffing through the fabric. And it pooches funny in the front. But the real clincher: it rustles like a pack of uhhhh gum. Or potato chips. It's not LOUD, but the sweater is noiseless. I also tried the women's Magma and can safely say: the men's is better. Cuter, better color pattern, comfier. If the above doesn't bug you, get this, it's a great coat with a few tradeoffs! If you want the OG GOAT, stick with the rhymes-with-begonia sweater. :)
