Sabre pant fashion cut
I had these pants prior to this exact pair and the seem came undone and Arc Teryx replaced them with no question, they were amazing, easy to deal with and quick responses. The new pair of the exact same size is a completely different cut, more of a fashion cut than a performance cut. I have lived in Vail CO my entire life and ski all the time, and this is the worst fit pant I have ever had. I telemark as often as I alpine and the cut makes them difficult to make turns. I am very disappointed that the pant changed over the years. I believe Arc Teryx is a great company but the Sabre pant is not what it used to be
Quality product, good features; gaiters are short
Like these pants a lot. Gore Tex is a win, nice fit, quality fabric and construction, good set of pockets and ventilation zips. “Forage” is a pleasant light green color. Taking off a point because the gaiters are too short. They pull up when you bend down. That’s OK with snowboard boots which rise high but not good when I wear standard winter boots for snowshoeing. Not a deal killer though. I’m 5’11” with a 32” waist and bought the medium size. $600 is a silly price but got the pants on sale. Happy customer.
Good overall but could be improved.
Nice fit, confortable and protective. Need very warm layer when below -10c. The external shell is softer than expected but the pocket zips are very abrasive for the hands when you pick stuffs in the pockets. Very annoying when you frequently have to use pockets. After about 2 weeks of use, I already have 2 small holes on the bottom of the pant on each side at the same place, I do not get why the extra protective instep guards are not wider to cover the front.
What is up with the fit?
The fit is ridiculous - if you're an 'intact' man you will not able to wear these pants without discomfort and a persistent moose knuckle. Why make the crotch so tight and high up? The bottom of the pants are comically flared, with the thigh area being tight. Reminiscent of bell-bottom jeans. The Gore-Tex fabric suffered from a small hole after only a week of use. I really regret spending so much money on these pants, I'll be going to a far cheaper pair that may not be as 'technical' but actually fits the body of a human being!
Very good, highly recommend
I've used these pants for more than 50 days over two winters, in every condition. They are highly weatherproof, move well when ski touring and have been durable. In aggressive storms with high wind and snowfall they are very good, highly waterproof and windproof. The vents are are good, the pants find a good balance of waterproof and breathability. I have other pants I would use in spring for ski touring in very hot weather. The lining material on the inside is nice. The features with the built in belt are good, and thigh pockets are the right size for a phone or small notebook. If there is anything to add, it would be nice to have at least one small pocket in the normal place for keys or chapstick. They're expensive, but you get what you pay for with arcteryx.
Quality pants, try on first!
The pants are great with many of the key features I was looking for. So far I've only taken them to the resort. Layers underneath were key for that -10 day. I'll be taking them out ski touring this weekend but judging by the fit, I think they'll move well. My only complaint is the new sizing scheme - totally out to lunch! According to the sizing chart, I should be medium but couldn't even get into them. The large fits perfect, even thought my waist isn't 37. Something really needs to be done about sizing of products.
Arcteryx sizing needs streamlining.
I've had this pant in a small for a few years, now. Generous fit in the waist, which is nice. Really hold up well. Decided to pick up a pair in the outlet section. Looked inside my Sabre pant and they are small. Tried them on and they fit nicely. Bought a small in the Sabre relaxed fit. They arrived and are quite tight in the waist. If you can't rely on the sizing across similar items, it becomes a crap shoot. Outlet items aren't returnable. Boo, Arcteryx. Streamline your sizing!!!
Fit is a bit odd, and their size chart is off
I wear a 34 waist pants in almost all brands. According to Arc'teryx, I should be a medium. But I couldn't even fasten the pants or the buckle at the loosest. The thighs are ok, and the lowers are quite baggy even for wearing ski boots. Had to return them. I've been wearing Arc'teryx pants for years and none have fit like this. Otherwise, the pants are just what I want, but REI says they're being discontinued and I can't get a large in black. Guess I'll have to buy some other brand.
Wrong material, wrong colour, too tight.
Bought the Forage colour, having been told it was the same fabric as the Forage/Azalea jacket. It wasn't at all. I returned them. But I walked through a few kick-turns in the kitchen and the fit was too snug for ski touring (and I'm not a big guy) so these trousers would have been useless for me, regardless of the incorrectly described material. I notice they're no longer for sale, so maybe Arcteryx has realised their error. I hope they don't all end up in landfill.
Peter belt buckle
Comfortable. Baggy just enough to allow me to move freely. The belt buckle is much better than the one in a "C" shape that you have on other pants. That one stays close. The cel phone inside pocket is a nice touch. The belt is not sewed in so its buckle slides inside the grove and it is difficult to retrieve. Be careful that's all. I do recommend this product
