these are the best climbing pants i've ever owned. maybe best pant. i have a very wide leg, and always have to buy pants that are too big in the waist for me. finally somebody makes a pant that fits a wider leg, and gives us all a modern look. i bought these first in the stretch nylon, then got a pair of cotton. i now wear the cotton ones every day to work, but also climb when it won't rain. they are more comfortable than the nylon. love the pockets for harness use and articulated knee for comfort. best pants i own!
Pros: Material, mechanical properties: fantastically comfortable, the stretch provides a comfort you won’t find in jeans. Fit, design: excellent, wide. Cons: Availability: 3 months waiting for the size to be in stock. Available only at the end of the season. Hey guys, are you sure you are doing business in Germany? Material, durability: I don’t know how this fabric will handle climbing rocks, but even in regular casual use snags started to appear, which cannot be fixed. Material, color fastness: faded on the knees within the first month and after just 2 gentle washes. Turned into black-orange. Photo attached. A big disappointment for this price.
Hi Dima. Thank you for sharing such a detailed review of the Cronin Cotton Pant. We’re happy to hear you’ve found the fit and comfort to be strong points, though we understand your frustration with availability and the durability concerns you’ve experienced with the fabric and color fastness. Your feedback will be passed along to our design and materials teams for review. If the fading and snags continue to be an issue, we’d encourage you to submit a Product Service Request form so our team can assess the garment directly.
The Cronin Cotton Pants have a clean, classic look with the comfort you expect from Arc'teryx. The cotton fabric feels soft yet substantial and has a quality weight that drapes well. They are easy to move in and comfortable enough for all-day wear, whether at work, traveling, or out around town. They strike a nice balance between casual and refined, which makes them versatile for many situations. The fit is flattering without feeling tight, and the build quality is excellent. These have quickly become a go-to choice when I want something that looks good and feels even better.
The pants are great, but unfortunately I bought one size too small. I recommend getting size R—they're very comfortable to wear.
These pants are so roomy and I absolutely love that. They are fashionable enough to wear all around town yet practical enough to take on hikes. The fabric is soft next to the skin and surprisingly breathable which makes them comfortable in many conditions. The pockets are well placed and useful and the sizing is perfect. Honestly I enjoy everything about these pants. They look great, feel great, and work for just about anything I want to do.
Glad to see the Cronin brought back, and the updates are positive imo. More stretch in the material while still maintaining the cotton canvas style, roomier fit for freedom of movement on the wall. Been wearing these in various colours all fall-winter, a true staple pant for me. I’m around 30/31” waist, and generally wear a 32 with no belt, which is the case for the Cronin. I also have 2 pairs in a 34 for extra steaz (belt required, but not bunched or annoying).
I’ve worn this pants on a trail and for daily work, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The fit is excellent, and the pants are versatile enough for climbing, trail hiking, or everyday commuting. The cotton version features solid construction and a true-to-size fit (I got the 32-R). A dependable choice for both outdoor activities and daily use. I wish it had a built-in belt like some of my pants, but that’s just me. Also, this is more dark grey than black.
I noticed that the overlock stitches don't exstend all the way to the hem. It transitions into double stitched seam few inches above the hem. This protects the delicate overlock stitches from being exposed when the pants are rolled up. Really appreciate this detail which shows that durability is incorporated in construction. .
I have never found a pair of pants that can go from the outdoors to casual like this. The construction is what is needed for all you adventures but the fit is perfect and super comfortable!! Just ordered my second pair (different color) truly amazing. And for a short king like myself the short sizing is perfect!
These pants are super comfy and airy. Perfectly cut for comfort and articulation. I’ve got 3 pairs, 2 cotton and 1 synthetic. They have been used all over the western rockies to hike, scramble and climb mountains for which they are great - there is a but coming though … both of the cotton pairs (black and Tatsu) have severely faded after only a few washes and months of use (not acceptable). They almost have an orange like tinge to them as if they’ve been bleached (they haven’t). It has kinda ruined the whole look of the pant for me and it’s insanely disappointing to have such poor quality. An older comment about the pants holding onto stains is also very accurate - don’t cook oil or fat with them on!!
Hi there. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Cronin Cotton Pant. We’re glad to hear the comfort, cut, and articulation have worked well for your activities, but we’re sorry to hear about the fading and staining issues you’ve encountered. Your feedback on fabric performance is valuable, and we’ll share it with our product team as we continue to refine our materials.
