I searched for a long time to find lighter weight hiking boots that I could take to Italy for trail hiking and city walking. I have some foot challenges due to a neuroma, and need a wide toe box and lots of cushioning on the outsole of shoes. I am extremely pleased with these boots not only for their performance on the trails but also for their all-day comfort. I’m not sure I would take these on any technical hikes or could be used with a heavy pack. But I walked around for a couple of weeks on rocky terrain, did lots of steps and steeps in Cinque Terre and Tuscany with a daypack and found these to really be great.
I brought these boots 2 weeks before undertaking the National Three Peaks Challenge as my old boots split a seam during training. I only managed 2 short practice hikes before the event, and even so I didn’t get a single blister or hot spot during the challenge, they were extremely comfortable and lightweight. Even with some heavy persistent rain, the boots stayed dry. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is that the inner lining has delaminated slightly in areas of the boot, leading to it rucking up a bit, I have been able to smooth this out again and the boot has remained dry, I just have concerns over the longevity.
Bought them for an Icelandic trip. Very comfortable, could walk with them all day. The issue he is that they are not water proof or resistant.

I have had many pairs of Salomon shoes over the years, and was looking for something to wear on a trip to Scotland where we expected to be on our feet quite a bit and likely in wet conditions. Both turned out to be the case and I was very happy with the Elixir. Both when walking city streets and hiking trails. They wear more like a tennis shoe than boot in my opinion. And in a good way. They were very light, comfortable and provided protection from the wet conditions. I also like the styling. I sized own a half size from my normal 10, but that is the case with all Salomons I have purchased. The fit around the ankle got a little time to get used to, but nothing uncomfortable, or bothersome. All in all a very nice shoe. Highly recommend!
Right out of the box, these shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn! It feels like you are wearing slippers, though you can still feel the terrain under your feet. They are perfectly waterproof up to the ankle, though on super-hot days, your feet may get a bit warm (the price you pay for Gore-Tex). I have had issues with other Salomon shoes with ripping on the top along the toe line, but these uppers seem softer and less brittle, so I am hoping it won't happen this time. Great for any terrain - quite happy with these shoes!
Best hiking shoes/boots I've ever owned. I don't understand the amount of reviews saying they run small. I typically have trouble finding shoes that feel good on both feet and these have yet to provide any discomfort or sizing issues. Just try on shoes before buying them. I've had these for 6 months and i hike every weekend. Still in great shape! 10/10 would recommend
I finally gifted my husband his own pair of Salomon's based on my Love for them! I purchased mine 9 months ago because of the BEST EVER large toe box & overall comfort of entire shoe rocking design! Even with my thick, customized orthotic flat-foot insole, there is still lots of toe and heel room to make daily wear superb! My husband's shoe fit is also excellent! He has high arches and struggles with ankle/joints yet his new pair provide needed support. He is active and now can enjoy hikes and daily wear with these Salomon's withOUT pre-existing discomfort. I also ordered a pair for my sister whom struggles with plantar fasciitis. She loves the rockng design of shoe and large toe box. I can say more yet I think you get my drift ;) ENJOY your new pair(s)!
Great lightweight shoes that need next to no break-in. Size fits a bit smaller compared to other Salomon products, but slightly larger than other brands (Lowa, ASICS, etc). I bought size 12 initially, felt a bit large, bought the 11.5’s and then ended up returning the 11.5’s. I find the heel cup in all Salomon’s a bit tight, but after a couple wears, it loosens up. Salomon’s Contagrip, in my opinion, is the best on the market. All around, very comfortable and lightweight for medium trails.
Very light and comfortable right out the box. I agree with some of the other reviews: they are snug, making 'em a bit tougher to put on and the laces are kinda wonky if you need to re-lace but neither are significant enough to be a deal breaker. Thus far, have only tried on granite & dirt in dry conditions but grip seems adequate. My only complaint is the lack of waterproof/Gore-tex options. As a desert rat, I don't need or want that in my hiking shoes.
I tried white version of this shoe in store, but they did not have the grey color unfortunately, so I bought it online. However, I can give my first impressions based on in-store experience. The white/orange version looks very cool, but it will get dirty after first hike I assume, yet for the city/style wearing that would be perfect. Now, comparing to the beloved X-Ultra lineup - I owned X-Ultra 3, Mid 3 and 4 and I can say those have harder undersole and stiff while wearing, while these shoes feel more flexible and comfortable. Sure if I was buying solely for hiking, I would get X-Ultras for that stiffness, but having those for years I thought it's good chance to try something more comfy for wearing in the city as well. Overall they look good, more sporty than X-Ultras but less sporty than Speedcross and others. I would recommend these.
