Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

A decent lightweight option.

I think this hoodie is okay, but it does not blow me away. I found it to be a decent option to throw over my baselayer while actively hiking in the high 40s to mid 50s to keep the chill at bay. It is somewhat strangely situated in thickness between a mid-weight and heavy-weight baselayer, yet seemingly intended as a mid-layer given the design. The grid on the inside is almost non-existent, basically a single additional thread height (see picture). As such, I did not find the hoodie to be particularly warm. This could be a positive if you run hot but still need something thin for insulation while on the move. However, I would hesitate to bring this as a dedicated static insulation piece even in the summer. I was not cold on a summit while sitting in the sun in low 50 degree weather with the hood up over my insulated cap, but I was in no danger of overheating. There was also no breeze to speak of. Notably, for my uses, a lightweight wind shell pretty much completely covers the technical niche of this hoodie while being both lighter, more compact, and more versatile. But if you overheat in one of those, the extra breathability here might be the ticket for you. I will also say that this hoodie is more soft / cozy to wear around casually than a wind shell. The material is extremely stretchy (closer to spandex than fleece), which further contributes to comfort. Size down if you are between sizes or want to try using this as a thicker baselayer. I think the low-profile thumb holes are a nice touch for making sure the sleeve stay put or locking in a little more warmth. The chest pocket has enough space for even the largest smart phones and the kangaroo pocket is similarly cavernous. Given the reasonable price, solid construction, and REI's penchant for good sales on their branded items, this could be a good buy if you think it fits a hole in your mid-layer quiver. I think of it as a "heavy"weight sun-hoodie.

Trailmade half zip is a decent piece

I've only used the piece a few times for quick hikes in late fall weather, so would probably need more time to use it in the summer. I think this is a light summer piece that would be good for hiking, canoeing, and running. I got this as a free clothing piece in return for the review. I'm about 6 ft. And used the large size. It fits pretty well and I really like the length of the sleeves. As you can see from the sleeve length when you have it pull down over your thumbs there is pretty good length left over. When its just sitting naturally the length is great for long arms. I find most clothing to be too short on the arm length so having this give a little extra was great. The color is light grey and the green in the accents looks nice. The zipper functions really well and no issues zipping. The fabric is lightweight and comfortable and probably best for spring, summer and early fall. I used it down to about 60 and it was just about at its max for me. The hood is a great fit. Could get over a bike helmet if you needed but it would be tight. If it came in a couple other colors I would probably buy another one. Overall, this is a really well done piece by REI.

Very nice material this is a great and lightweight

Very nice material, this is a great lightweight hoodie. I often hike with it during lots of sun exposure to keep myself from getting burnt. Compared well to other brands. Not super warm if you’re looking for that.

Okay, there is better on the market

I am not the biggest fan of this hoodie. It is way too lightweight. The construction seems acceptable, but I wonder why it exists. It doesn't keep me too warm. It is not the most comfortable. It will not keep me dry in the rain. It won't help people see me at night. Why does this exist. All things considered, I'd pay a little more for a higher quality item.

Fantastic lightweight 1/4 zip Hoodie

I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. This lightweight hoodie is very comfortable and useful for many activities. The pockets (chest and hand) are very nice features for a hoodie and make the hoodie something that can worn in sports, hiking or just casual wear. In the 2 weeks I have owned it I have worn it many times. When you put the hoodie on and zip up to the top, it is very warm.

Lightweight and thoughtful little details

I'm really enjoying this hoodie which is designed to be lightweight, so not something you'd want on particularly chilly outings or evenings, but perfect for what it's intended for. I particularly enjoy all of the little details they got right with the design - thumb holes, a kangaroo front pouch, hoodie, and overall very light and comfortable fit. It's become a staple in my wardrobe for both casual and fitness wear since acquiring it.

Nice Hoodie for Hiking in Cool Temps

I recently took the REI Co-op Trailmade Hoodie on a hiking trip in Wisconsin during autumn, and it performed well in cool weather. The weight is just right—light enough for breathability, but warm enough to keep the chill at bay. The fabric is breathable and moisture-wicking, helping to reduce perspiration and keep me dry. The design is not only attractive but also practical. The hoodie fits well and moves with you, while the added thumb holes on the sleeves are a nice feature, keeping the sleeves in place and providing extra warmth around the wrists. The small chest pocket is also a thoughtful addition, and was just the right size for sunglasses. Overall, I was really impressed with the quality and performance of this hoodie. I recommend it for anyone looking for a versatile, comfortable layer for autumn or spring trails.

Perfect lightweight hoodie!

Love this hoodie! It’s a great layer for when you might want a little bit more warmth in the mornings/evenings but will probably take it off during the day. It’s lightweight and not bulky so it is easy to tuck into a backpack. I wear it on the beach and boat as well as keep it with me when traveling and camping as a mid layer. Less warmth than a fleece but more than a tshirt or sunshirt. The sleeves are great. Wish the body was a bit longer, but I’m 6’2” so it’s probably fine for most.

fell apart but great color

I bought this and loved it but the stitching came apart and I returned it. The color, I got the greenish one, is bright and the fabric is soft. The pocket is similar to most hoodies but the hem is the bottom of the pocket and it blew out within the first few hours of use. I would buy another but they no longer have large available.

Warm but Light

Love this hoodie. Wore it the other day under a Kuhl fleece in 55* partly cloudy day and worked outside (work in IT) and felt warm all afternoon. Love the textile used. Worth the price when bought on sale. I would buy several more if I could.
