Awesome Duffel Bag with Great Accessories

I got this duffel bag for a week long snowboard trip to Jackson Hole and it is a beast. It held 2x pairs of snowboard pants, 2 jackets and everything else I need for the rest of the week. My only gripe is that somewhere down the line, REI decided to replace the handle hook ends and backpack strap hook ends with plastic pieces rather than metal ones they used to use. I worry that plastic hook ends would eventually break compared with metal ones, but probably not for a while depending on how much use you put into it. I own the 25L bag from a few seasons ago and all the hook ends on that pack are metal (see photo). Overall a great pack for hauling a lot of stuff with more than ample room for the kitchen sink.

Not as sturdy as I thought it would be

Not very sturdy. I checked with the airline for my first use and got it back torn. Unfortunately I didn't notice right away and can't make a claim with the airline.

Great All Around Pack!

The Big Haul Duffel 90 is pretty awesome! It held all my gear for two 1 day road trips for trail running/exploring. It would hold way more, but with Covid I've only been able to use it on 1-Day trips so far. The material is lightweight and easy to clean- I got dust off pretty easily. The backpack straps- hook and loop feature is super quick to position into place, and the handles make it easy to carry. Also, you can get the backpack straps out of thee way when you need to access main compartment- something I really like. The top has a wide opening, so you can see all of your gear! The added case for storing when not in use is a nice bonus!

Poor Quality

Purchased this bag less than a year ago. For the price I hoped it would be a good quality bag. We'll have traveled with several time over these past 9 months and there is two holds already worn through the bottom on the corners. The bag didn't hold up just really travel through the airports. Disappointed in the quality of the bag. It has plenty of room but very poor quality bag. I have had other bags for many, many tears that have been through more abuse that has never gotten the first hole. This bag is very poor quality, you would think for the price it would last longer than 9 months.

]Approved by me for the TMB and TdF adventure 2023

I bought the Big Haul 90 Recycled Duffle for the Tour of Mount Blanc (TMB) this summer of 2023. I had everthing I needed to hike in France, Italy and Switzerland. My stuffed duffel was moved from location to location for me while I hiked the TMB with a daypack, also an REI product. The duffle withstood several international flights and luggage handlers. The hidden shoulder straps were comfortable as I transported 35# of gear through multiple trains stations and long walks to my hotels in Geneva, Chamonix, and Paris. I am sure it can carry much more weight if necessary, as I had plenty of room for additional souvenirs from the Tour de France Grand Tour bike race. I liked the additional zippered storage and the strong overall construction of the Big Haul 90 Recycled Duffle. After three weeks traveling the Big Haul 90 is a little dirty but otherwise its ready for many more adventures!

Double Whammy Bad Bag

Within 9 months the bottom showed extensive wear from a few trips within the states...No big excursions at all. So to have MANY rips in the fabric along with fraying fabric which has been indicative of global travel in my other gear, yet this bag had logged only a few stateside trips and already being destroyed. It was a substantial let down as the overall design and function of the bag had me stoked for epic adventures to come....However it is an epic fail with the poor quality of the material used to build the bag. To add insult to injury they would not cover the damage under the warranty....I have been a COOP member for DECADES and this was a double whammy let down with REI as the warranty was junk on this bag and likely so for good reason based on the extensive wear from light use.

A carry-bag carry-bag? Absolutely

I don't usually buy things that only do one thing, and on the face of things a bag to carry a bag seems like a waste. Since this purchase, I don't have to worry about replacing backpack buckles and straps mangled by airport equipment at all. Super features (haven't used the shoulder straps yet) extremely durable and intuitive. Yes, I used the word intuitive for a bag-bag, and it's true. I highly recommend this bag, and I'm buying another for my travel telescope!

Dependable, Useful, Convenient

This 90L duffel is exactly what you need. Waterproof up top to shed any dew outside of the tent (it does NOT have a waterproof bottom - but why are you dropping your duffel in a puddle?). The handles and backpack straps are easy to stow and make hauling this very big bag easy. I like the overall styling and found it easy to fill and fish out the gear that I needed. Its also a significant bargain compared to other brands who are marketed to an extreme situation that you'll frankly never need. My only gripe is the velcro on the main handle, which gets frizzy over time - I wish it used snaps.

Big Haul 90

I love love love this soft-side bag! I love it's boxy shape as it holds a lot more than a round duffel. Has one large and one smaller interior mesh compartments with zippers. The top unzips 3/4 of the way around so it completely flips open to load. The outer zipper is water-proof. There is an outer zip compartment, a shoulder strap AND 2 backpack straps so you can carry it on you back like a backpack. There are lots of external loops and web pulls to carry coats and jackets on the outside plus handles all around so you can grab it from any direction. Did I say I LOVE this bag? Holds a lot of stuff without being TOO heavy. I'd recommend to any traveling. It's roomy and easy carry. Haven't found anything bad about it! Many different sizes and colors offered.

Long Trips? This is the BAG!!

Bought this bag as my go-to carryall for long trips. Have used it for several international trips and never had a problem with airlines damaging it. It is tough and durable and I love the heavy duty zippers. The side pocket is great for storing the carrying straps right at the bag check point. The backpack straps tuck securely into their own pocket and have never had an issue of sliding out during transit. I've had over 50 lbs in this bag for a couple of trips and it never seems to strain the bag (me? that's another story). Will examine one of the roller duffels (30 or 60 L) for a supplemental bag, but this big fella does the job so well, I've not needed another just yet.

I preferred the older style Big Haul

I have one of the older Big Haul 90 and two of the Big Haul 40, but all the older style (non-Recycled). One of the things I really liked was that the compression straps had opposite buckles on each side so when the bag isn't fully loaded you could attach the straps across the entire bag. The new bag has the compression strap buckles the same on each side so now you can't attach the straps across the bag. I do like that the duffle bag has stow-away backpack straps and removable handles for using the duffle as checked baggage.
