For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

I LOVED my Spire hiking shoes so much I bought another pair after about 2 years and many hundreds of miles. I wore the second pair out after hiking several hundred more miles over the next 3 years. I decided to try the Akyra model and found the shoes to be extremely tight across the widest part of my foot. I went another half size higher (a full 1/2 size higher than my other La Sportivas) and I just could not wear them, still too tight. I do not have a wide foot. I returned these and have ordered the newer Spire model hoping the company did not change the width on these as well since my last purchase back in 2022. The Spire hiking shoes have been the most comfortable hikers I have ever owned. Thankfully, as an REI member, I was able to return the Akyras with no problem.
I was having problems with planters fasciitis. I received my new La Sportiva shoes just in time for a 20 mile hike. I was able to accomplish my goal pain free , thanks to a friend who recommended these shoes.
I decided it was time for a new pair of shoes after losing confidence in my old ones due to poor grip on wet granite. These are a major upgrade and provide impressive grip and support on technical terrain. I initially ordered a half-size up based on reviews and the fact that my regular size wasn’t available, but they were a bit loose. I exchanged for my regular size (10.5/42.5) when back in stock, and those fit perfectly. They worked well for me right out of the box, with no need for break-in. I can’t wait to put more miles on them.
Fit just right. No break- in needed. Sturdy yet Comfy, not too heavy
These shoes are a a great fit. I have narrow feet with a low arch, they fit perfectly. I ordered a 9.5, that is my usual size. I hiked with them this weekend. Great traction and support. I’m very happy with them.
Really well made & I am sure they will hold up well over a long period of time. The reason a 4 star & not a five is because of the heel & that is inflexible somewhat & pushes into my lower ankle. Probably will loosen up after wearing them a while.
